That is an approximate location--it is roughly in the location of the Black Sea. |

^ no, it wouldn't. valinor is outside the spheres of the world - it's not anywhere on earth. going by the places tolkien drw inspiration from, i live in the shire, about 30 mins south of hobbiton - woohoo! i'm gonna have to go and find a map now, cuz i have no idea where the black sea is. |

america wouldn't have been discovered at the time that tolkien was writing about, so it wouldn't appear on any maps of middle earth. |

I hadn't heard of the Phoenicians discovering it, but I've read that Roman coins have been found around Florida/Georgia/somewhere-in-the-southern-USA, and Roman shipwrecks have been found off the coast, too. Kind of interesting. Those are some of the reasons I don't think highly of Columbus at all. All he really did was spell the doom of a bunch of natives by selling them into slavery, and then leading others back to take the rest. |

I think it would be MUCH better to put the Sea of Rhun as being the Black Sea. That would put Mordor around Greece, part of the Mediterranean Sea, Turkey and part of North Africa. Thanks |
