I got this at the Encyclopedia of Arda -

Dates: Descended into Arda at its beginning, banished from the World c. I 583
Race: Ainur
Pronunciation: mo'rgoth bow'gleer ('ow' as in 'now')
Meaning: 'Morgoth' means 'Black Enemy'; 'Bauglir' is 'The Constrainer'
Titles: Bauglir, Dark Lord
Other Names: Melkor
Note: 'Morgoth' is the name of the first Dark Lord used throughout the First Age, after he was given this name by Fëanor. The events of that period are described in this entry, but Morgoth's origin and activites before the First Age are given in the entry for his true name, Melkor.

After his theft of the Silmarils and Darkening of Valinor, Morgoth fled the Valar, and returned to Middle-earth with Ungoliant before the beginning of the First Age. In his ancient fortress of Angband, far to the north of Beleriand, he made an Iron Crown for himself, with the Silmarils mounted upon it.

In the first year of the First Age, the Noldor returned to Middle-earth to make war on Morgoth for the recovery of the Silmarils. The history of that Age is the history of the hopeless wars of the Noldor against Morgoth. \\

I hope that helps. :bye2:

Thanks for sharing the data! Yes, the Encyclopedia of Arda is amazing - Larael was the one who first told me of it. It's excellent. In fact, that's the only place I know of that tells me that Eowyn and Faramir had a son. :bye2:

No, it says they had a son in the appendicies on Return of the King. I like reading just the appendicies sometimes. It's very interesting! :-D

Yes, Encyclopedia of Arda is a nice source and they get all the information from Tolkien's work otherwise the info wouldn't be trustworthy!!

Wait - it does say that?? Where? I'm rereading RotK, and I;m still on the Appendixes. However, I do know that Barahir, Eowyn's and Faramir's grandson, was mentioned in the prologue of FotR, because he was the one who wrote the Tale of Arwen and Aragorn. :bye2:

Exactly, Larael!! I was wondering that too. If I had come across it - surely I would've remembered it. Are you sure you mean the appendixes of the book? :bye2:
