Post subject:  the house of lost play
Who likes the house of lost play and the tale of Eriol from Lost Tales? Coz I like all the tales in the original forms( a bit) and the house just sound really cool. What do you all think?

......I much prefer the style of The Silmarillion. Very much more than the style in The Book of Lost Tales, even though the latter does contain the lengthened version of the Siege of Gondolin, which happens to be my favorite after the Lay of Leithan.

I agree with Aerandir very much! English is not my mother tongue so it's quite difficult to read. I like the Sil better though. (But the Fall of Gondolin in HoME is best!!)

Yeah. FoG was great in HoME. :D But....the Books of Lost Tales got confusing until I figured out who was who before their names were changed, etc.

the story of eriol in the cottage of lost play is nice enough, but i much prefer the poems that appear in that section. "you and me" is really sweet - i like the style and i love the idea that him and edith met in dreams in their childhood. i also liked the poem about kortirion, but i was kind of biased towards that straightaway because it's based on warwick which isn't far from where i live.

I like the idea that Eriol, a man gets there and the elves look after him and tell him tales of their history. Its just kinda cool I think. I'd like to be Eriol. I dunno why of you think its hard but then again English is my first language so I would say that...

English is my first language too. It was confusing because of the unorganized style of it--I have to remind myself to read it without comparing it to The Silmarillion and the finalized version of events.

It was also confusing because some of the characters had different names than they did in The Silmarillion, too.

I am somehow envious of you all!!!
I am German and the German LotR is no match to the english one. Also I would really like to live in England ( in spite of the waesther :-D ). To think that I could visit these places Tolkien based his works on.... arrggghhh

It's hardly any better near North and Baltic sea where I live (Hamburg). So there wouldn't be a big difference i guess.

Although I think its great that we have people having good conversation, and hi Eruhin, Good to have u herem its a bit more about the weather, which may be classed as off topic by a mod. Just thought Id say.
But anyway. Does everyone know that bloke Littleheart Bronweg who rings the gong? I think hes cool. Just a bit of a loner lol.

Right, thanks EBM.

I haven't read TBOLT-1 in a while (a year or so) now, since I much prefer the style in The Silmarillion, so I don't really remember Bronweg that well. However, I'll take your word for it. :)

I don't think Bronweg is that great. After all he's not that much mentioned I think. I like Rúmil because he speaks ALL languages. And that's a lot.

Hes cool too but he does get a bit annoying after a while methinks. Eriol must be confused after a chat with him lol :-D :-p
