yeah maybe. Maybe it was destroyed, but I don't think so. I think it was brought to Rivendell by Elrond and he kept it somewhere secret so that not everyone could see it.

I have never thought of it actually... :-)

What makes you think it survived the war?
It might simply have perished. It is such a mighty weapon so it would make sense if it had been attempted remade in the later years if it survived. After all the Shards of Narsil were kept as a heirloom for so long in the hope that someone one day could wield the re-forged sword again. Aeglos might have almost the same status, so Tolkien might have mentioned it later on if he wanted it to have been saved.

hmm.. yeah, that's a good point. Well, I guess maybe Aeglos perished, because Gil-Galad had no heir (or did he??) and the elves in general were moving away from Middle-Earth as well.

No he did not have wife or children (at least not that we kow of).

Well aye, good point Ea, but as Gil-galad had no heir, they might have just sent it over the sea, or kept it hidden in rivendell? I think it's highly unlikely that had it survived they'd have left it in Mordor.

Yeah, could be, but then again, Aiglos was legendary and so was Narsil, but they were only weapons after all. Even though being forged by Elven smiths who might have poured all their skill and good vibes etc. into them, their power still depended on the one to wield them. Aragorn took up the Re-Forged Sword and wielded it with great power because he was the rightful heir to do it.
Aiglos might have perished either when Sauron slayed Gil-galad or when he was destroyed...

But well.. we can't know... perhaps someone else want to share his/her opinion. Now I've chipped in :-)

Well I think too the weapon must've perished because it would have been mentioned somewhere if not. I always wondered why Elrond was not considered to be Gil-Galad's heir because he too is a Noldo as is Galadriel.

Aeglos is soooo cool. :D It's my second-favorite weapon after Anduril. Mostly because it's a spear, and it's Gilgalad's, and he was awesome.

As I recall, the actor is Mark Ferguson or something similar, and I agree--he doesn't exactly look as I imagined the character. :annoyed2:

But, he still looks okay. Especially his armor and Aeglos. :D

yeah I agree. Elrond was supposed to look neither young nor old and I guess it's the same with Gil-Galad. But you can see that both actors are over 40. But I think Hugo Weaving portays Elrond's character really well.

I think that Hugo Weaving as Elrond is perfect, he seems to me to have the necessary natural authority to play the role of such a powerful and wise Lord, but I don't like the actor who plays Gil-Galad and I don't like spears so I prefer Narsil to Aeglos. I think that Sauron destroyed Aeglos when Gil-Galad was slayed, otherwise the Elves had keep it because they loved their king.

that's what I was trying to say when I wrote that Hugo Weaving portrays Elrond's character really well.
I actually prefer Aeglos to Narsil, because I think Aeglos is more beautiful

*sigh* Of course, it's only logical humans can never really look like Elves...

Well, that is very true... it's probably hard making any human resemble an elf...

And honestly, I think everyone (even after reading Tolkien's description) pictures elves differently. Especially Gil-Galad. He looks almost exactly as I pictured him in my mind.

Oh, and I prefer Narsil to Aeglos because I'm kind of liking the sword :P
but... I have to agree Aeglos is next to none with spears.
