What is your favorite song from any of Tolkien's middle earth series, from the hobbit to unfinished tales, lost tales to return of the king? Is it "The road goes ever on and on?" "A Elbereth Gilthoniel?" I liked the lament Aragorn and Legolas wrote for Boromir. About all the different winds. And the song about Nimrodel...and Frodo's lament for Gandalf was lovely, too! *sigh* Can't decide on a favorite! What about you guys? |

yeah there are very many beautiful songs and poems in the LotR books. I think Tolkien was very good at writing poetry. |

Yes, he did want to be a professional poet after all. I really like the Lay of Luthien and the song of Nimrodel. And also Sam's troll song. ![]() |

I like the song Aragorn sings about the Rohirrim very much. Parts of it are also in the film. And of course "You and me" from BoLT 1 *sighs* |

I adore that one! There is an inn, a merry old inn Beneath an old grey hill And there they brew a beer so brown The man in the moon himself came down One night to drink his fill. The ostler has a tipsy cat That plays a five-stringed fiddle And up and down he runs his bow Now squeaking high, now purring low Now sawing in the middle! The landlord has a little dog That is mighty fond of jokes When there's good cheer among the guests He cocks an ear at all the jests And laughs until he chokes! Guess what? That was from memory. ![]() |

Hmm...I like quite a few of them. I like The Contest of Sauron and Felagund, The Lay of Gil-galad, The Lament for Boromir, Gimli's Khazad-dûm song, and Gandalf's Dwimordene one, but most of all, I love The Tale of Beren and Lúthien that Aragorn sings. I ♥ that one. It is the most beautiful of all of his, I think. |

I suppose there's a difference between poem and song, but my favorite poems of Tolkien's (in English) are: Mythopoeia The Sea Bell, or Frodo's Dreme The Trees of Kortirion Kôr - In A City Lost And Dead Ælfwine's Song |

I haven't read any of those poems, Tabris--at least I don't think so, unforunately. I really, really, really want to get my hands on a copy of The Lays of Beleriand. And Tolkien's non-Arda stuff. ![]() |
