Post subject:  Beren and Luthien set to be published next year!!
I'm supper excited for this!! I just found out the other day that the story of Beren and Luthien js set to be published from a compilation of all Tolkien's versions of the story. (Which there were several)

Christopher Tolkien will be editing it of course, so here is hoping he is once again able to capture his father's imagination and original intent for the story.

This story has always been one of my favorite out of the Silmarilion (along with several others) and so I am supper happy to see it gain a book all it's own. :D

It's awesome news. I must admit that I find the story of Beren and Lúthien more interesting than Túrin and Nienor (too much angst in the latter). It will be interesting to see how C.T. has compiled the various fragments.

just found out about this yesterday and I'm SO EXCITED!!!! It's going to be so good!! :jump:
The great thing about this is that I can trust that it will be good because Christopher Tolkien! I don't have to worry about any screenwriters making idiotic decisions like with the Hobbit. I can just trust that C.T. will have Middle-earth's best interest at heart. Ash.... So nice... :)

I look forward to it... but I'm not sure it's going to be a constructed, one version story like The Children of Hurin was.

I think it will be more like a collection of various Beren and Luthien texts all in one book, with commentary, including what there is of the [updated] long prose version, which unfortunately wasn't even close to being finished, but hasn't been published... yet. Plus artwork.

I would be quite surprised if there's a constructed "reader's version" like Children of Hurin, as Christopher Tolkien had already clarified that there wasn't enough updated material for such a venture... same with the Fall of Gondolin.

Anyway, I guess we'll see!

I seriously don't care at all whether it's actually finished or not. I just love Beren and Luthien! I could read different versions of their story all day! I don't really know why, I just could! :)

I see, I didn't realize that Elthir, thanks for the info!

Either way, I am with Healic.... I have always loved their story and am really looking forward to this book! I am sure I am going to love it as the Silmarilion was by far my favorite Tolkien book I've read and Beren and Luthian were one of my favorite stories out of it. (as well as the story with Rana and Vasa and how Yavanna made the ents... though they are much shorter stories)

I am excited about the book coming out. Did you know Beren and Luthien were based off Tolkien and his wife.

Can't wait to expand my Tolkien collection with another title! I love the story of Beren and Luthien. Constructed or not, I'm sure it will be a lovely addition to the rest of the books. Oh, and I can't wait to see Alan Lee's illustrations! :jump:

@Thranduil: Even at their resting place, they're referred as Beren and Luthien, I believe.

You are right Elenthari, that is how I found out they were based off them.

Yes, I had heard he based them off him and his wife. I thought it was cool when I heard about their tomb stones as well. :)

I am looking forward to this book for sure! :D
