This is the Official 1 vs 1 Thread.

Don't be shy! It is not that hard! It is a thread where you can discuss characters against each other, who would be the most powerful? Who would win? Post your opinions and such on this matter! Everytime it is clear who has won, someone else decides to come up with a new 1 vs 1. Doesn't it sound great? I will start with a rather hard one..

Feanor versus Gandalf the Grey

I will give my opinion later, if some others have posted..

Why is it Gandalf?

Gandalf!!!!
Why you ask?
Well, first of all Gandalf was sent by the Valar (right?) so this must mean that he is very powerful, because he is sent by powerful people. He has conquered a balrog, 'death', Saruman, and has fought in many, many battles. He is one of the Istari, so this makes him very wise. Using his wisdom and experiance in battle I think he would definantly win against Feanor.

Feanor is a very wise, battle savvy, Noldorian lord. The only thing is he doesn't have 'magic' like Gandalf does. So I do not think he would stand a chance.

Do not consider it as a sort of "fight" or "battle" between the two.

Also, do not forget Gandalf the Grey was limited in power. He did have more power, but he wasn't allowed to use it. He was a Maia, but an Istari. The Istari were limited in power.
Gandalf would have been a lot more powerful if he wasn't limited, of that I'm sure. He did use all of his power against the Balrog, so actually he was "breaking the rules" and yet he died. He was sent back to Middle-earth to complete his task(s), but the Valar gave him less limits, so actually he did not become any more powerful, he was just allowed to use more of his original power.

Fëanor was the most powerful Elf ever (although the Unfinished Tales states Galadriel may be more powerful). He captured the Light of the Trees to make the three Silmarils (and because of these jewels many powerful persons in Arda have fallen, Morgoth Bauglir and Elwë Singollo, to name a few).
He was slain by Gothmog, the Lord of the Balrogs (a Balrog of higher power than Dúrin's Bane, who fought against Gandalf the Grey). His spirit was consumed by flame.

I think this is a very hard choice.

uh that's hard to answer. one would die, the other one would barely survive (question: why do we need wars?!). But... Gandalf a lesser god, a Maia of Manwë and Varda, says Encyclopeadia of Arda, and powerful. but as Elu Thingol said, his powers were limited because he was a wizard.
