Okay, this was just a random thought I had when looking at Legolas' family tree. I hope this doesn't sound stupid or anything, but who was Legolas' mother? She isn't in the family tree, but I'm assuming Legolas' had a mother. He had to... :confused2:

Lol yes I would say that he did have to have a mother but I don't believe she's ever mentioned

No she's never been mentioned :(

lol. Well, if she has never been mentioned then I guess Tolkien just didn't want us to know about her, or he didn't think she was important. Oh well... :)

I don't think Legolas was even invented til Tolkien wrote the LOTR trilogy, so the family tree was never fully worked out...

You could have a point there. I mean, you have no idea how difficult it is making up all these trees and stories.

I looked for it, but Legolas' mother is really unknown.

Hey Serethiel didn't you used to be Tirilen Swift-Star or something like that?

Part of the family tree like with Orophin and Thranduil had to exist before the LotR Trilogy, because Thranduil is in The Hobbit.

Tirelen Swift-Star, if i'm correct

Nope, Legolas' mother really isn't mentioned by Tolkien - he left that for fan fic writers :-D (I've already read/seen many stupid names for her, thanksgod I remember none :P)

In fact it's Oropher, an elven warrior slain in the Last Alliance. Strange enough, he was a Sindar (therefore I guess Thranduil is also one) while Legolas is "of Silvan folk", as he tells the Fellowship (The Ring Goes South). So his mother has to be one of the Silvan Elves. But her name ... ask me not :-D.

^Oropher!Thats the one! I knoew it was Oro-something. Thank Elf Girl!

Yes, I've read in many places that Legolas considered himself as one of the Silvan Elves, like his mother.

It would be also nice to know whether she still lived during the wars or she sailed away to the West then if there were any other children ... Can't help but my natural curiousity is unstoppable :-D

I'm very curious about it too. I wish we had an answer to all these questions...

I wonder if Legolas had any siblings...

I have read many fanfics that have mentioned Legolas' mother. They have come up with names for her. I cannot remeber any of the names off the top of my head. But I have never really read about legolas having siblings.

OK I've re-read again one of my first-read fics. Yeah, 'twas a Mary Sue but I didn't care, I was but a newbie :-D. Legolas' mother is called Elráwien. Cool name, though

Cool, innit? Well once upon I time I started writing a fan fic myself, too and I named her ... uh, Vanamarilla, I think. Beautiful pearl. I dunno what was wrong with me :-D :duh:

Not exactly an Elvish name, but very catchy anyway!
