..back again, picking myself up, dusting off..and facing life..

Well Eowyn mostly. Well, mostly because she didn't want to sit around and do something that somebody else could do, wanting to go out in glory or doing something worth song or to be remembered.

Oh tin, you're doing such a wonderful job coming up with new topics! I praise you for it!

I think I most identify with two people, Sam and Eowyn. Sam is always seen as the friendly, loyal character who must keep Frodo on track to Mordor. In some ways I do that in my life. I love all of my friends and family, and I just want whats best for them all. I want them all to know I'll be there for them no matter what. This is something Sam constantly does for Frodo. As Sam is always there for Frodo, I am always there for my friends and family.
As for Eowyn, we are both human. We both share many of the same qualities which make us human. She doesn't want to be the average woman, she wants to be someone bigger than that, she wants to make a statement. Many of us, including me, want to do that also before we die. We all just want to make a difference in the world, and be remembered. Eowyn strived to be different, to show that she wasn't like the other women, and this is something I try to do every day.

I identify with Eowyn, for the same reason as Larael. There are many other characters I admire, but I think Eowyn is most like me.

I identify with Frodo, as a matter of fact. All he wants to do is stay home and live his life, but he's forced to go out on this long dangerous quest. I feel like that a lot

I have been identifying a lot lately with Frodo. He starts out on a journey that he knows little about. So much is uncertain...but still he goes forth. There are so many setbacks and trials, but going through those is far better than staying in comfort and complacency.

I also identify somewhat with Eowyn--not that I want glory in battle, but I, like her 'fear a cage'.

Although, I sympathize more with Arwen (that's a new one!). For so much of the story, Arwen is waiting--holding on to a small bit of hope that Aragorn may come through alive, and waiting for her people to diminish. I feel like, up till now, my life has been one of 'waiting' against my will.

I do not want to spend my life waiting! Like Arwen, I do not want to remain stagnant in life...I look forward to the hope I have, and live each day in light of that hope (at least, I hope I do that!).

Another lovely topic started by Tin.

I identify closely with a lot of LOTR characters, which is just one of the many things that attractsme to the books.
I relate to Arwen because when I love, I don't love half way. I love with my whole self, and I will give up my whole self for the one I love.
I relate very closely to Sam, perhaps most closely of all. Like Sam, I am fiercely loyal and will fight to the death for my friends or even carry them when they hit particularly rough patches in their lives. I also identify closely with Sam because of his deep love and regard for Frodo, which I also feel.
Frodo is my favorite LOTR character, and I feel as though I relate closely to him in many ways, as do most of the people in this world, even if they don't realize it. Frodo is a hobbit. He's not the strongest or the best in battle. He struggles. He falters. He gives in. He is tempted. These are things that we deal with every day in our lives. Frodo is so, so like us in the fact that he must face the obstacles that we face, but he is inspriring because ultimately, he overcomes those obstacles and saves Middle Earth, even though he has saved it for others and not for himself. Tolkien knew just what he was doing when he made Frodo the protagonist. We all know what he's going through. We can all sympathize. And we alll love him.

I'm alot like Pippin ... i'm too curious for my own good and i do the wrong things at the wrong times and turn things into chaos ... plus everyone thinks im super annoying

eowyn too, because i hate acting like how i'm expected to and i hate being pulled back from something (aka, battle, in her case) because i'm not the right gender

and haldir, because of my *surprising* knack of following rules and being really stern and insistant

According to those closest to me, and who have read the books and such, I identify with Gandalf the most. - mostly because of my limitless source of patience and knowledge of ...some.. things (god knows why they think that of me)..
Then they say Arwen, and then Merry..
I honestly would have no clue... so I've just posted here what I've been told

i have to say, i find it interesting that a number of you have said you identify with eowyn because of her defiance of gender stereotypes when she actually ends up declaring that she "will be a shieldmaiden no longer...[but] will be a healer, and love all things that grow and are not barren" - ultimately, she chooses the typical female role.

that's why i identify with eowyn - i want to prove myself on equal terms, but above all i think it is important to realise my role as a woman and when i find my faramir, i will choose the typical female role of wife and mother. i want to be the "ides" (noble woman) of anglo-saxon mythology, which is what i believe eowyn becomes after her marriage.

Mainly I would have to say Eowyn. I understands exactly how she feels in EVERY SINGLE part of the books, as I have had similar experiences as she. There's also the fact that people think I can't do things 'cause I'm a girl. Of course that's completely not true. I also would fear a cage. I hate being cooped up. In fact, even our wall around the compound we live in makes me feel restricted.
And I want to be myself and do what I want sort of, but stay at home and help my parents until I get married then I'll settle down.
I also feel like Faramir sometimes, not becasue my Parents like one of us kids better, but more of the wanting to prove myself, not nescessarily to family, but to a few friends.
Aragorn, because I don't feel comfortable with power and honor.
Merry, because although I can be rather crazy at time, I can be serious and really see deeply at times.
But I know how Sam feels, being so loyal to a friend. I haven't actually had to stick to someone like that, but I would if need be. I would go with friends to death.
I think that's all.

I think relate to Boromir the most. I am a pretty proud and stubborn, but I know when I've met my match. It takes me a while to acctually warm up to people, to where I can tell them things that I try to keep hiddin and actually feel comfortable around them. Also once I warm up to you, I try to be a loyal and helpful friend (sword practice anyone? ). I'm also more than willing to give my life to help those that need me or to protect something I care for or believe in. I'm also a good leader given the chance.

Well, I bet I'm going to be the only person on the forum to say this, but I find I relate, scarily so, to Morgoth.

Really wierd, but if you look at the descriptions of him in the first bits of The Silmarillion (the Ainulindale, and "Of the Valar," etc.), he's actually a lot like me, he just takes everything way too far. I find I'm possessive, like he is, and I do find some join in the possession along with the making, like Morgoth, whereas Aule just enjoys the making. So, yeah. I relate to Morgoth.
