Well, you will understand more- if you can understand the book. I had to read it a couple times before I actually figured out what was going on. It's a much harder read the the Lord of the Rings. But yes, it's a great book and you should definitly read it. |

To be honest, I wouldn't call it an exciting book. It does read more like a history book. |

I simply love it... the language is so beautiful, the stories are so beautiful, the characters are so beautiful... *sob* It is difficult to read, especially if you're not used to the archaic language. But once you get into it, I found it very much like the old tales and poems that Tolkien loved so much. Just don't read it as a novel. That's the #1 no-no for reading the Silmarillion. Think of it as a collection of seperate stories. But they're all connected, characters, places, situations, they all compliment each other to create what would have been (if he had lived to finish it) Tolkien's greatest work. ![]() |

Aiya:)! I'm with everyone else:) It is a wonderful book to read. You really get a glimpse into Middle-Earth history, it helps you understand the relationships Elves, Dwarves, and Men had with each other. You actually feel as if you are there witnessing the events that took place there, thanks to Tolkein's writing style:). Well, that's it! ~Námarië, Tenn'enquetielva! Lady Nienna |

Sil. is fantastic, and you should definately read it!!! Yes, all of the names and such can get confusing, so you kind of have to read it slow, but its soooo great!! And the stories in it are so good- my favorite is the Beren/Luthien part. (But it's a really hard choice... there are sooo many great stories in it!!) |
