I saw the movies and loved the stories, my brother had already read the books and he talked about there being so much more in them, iwanted to know more about it so i decided to read the books. im not a very good reader and so i found it hard going but i really liked it. my dad didnt like it because he thought it wasnt a good thing to be reading, so i would sit in bed with the door closed and read. i would often read late into the night, often in the early hours of the morning and would be terribly tired when i had to get up. but im glad i did cause i really enjoyed it. |

I first read FotR after the movie...too. -_- Yes, that inspired me. I didn't look on it as much at first, really--I saw it more of "fighting my way through the books because I loved the movies" rather than "OMG MUST READ BOOKS!!" That was the book I got through the fastest, though--I couldn't put it down. I finished in less than a month, happily! Some parts confused me--the Old Forest and Tom Bombadil and Barrow-downs--because I'd only seen the movies. But once I got into Rivendell...well, it really took off from there. I've got memories!! Second favourite book out of the three. Now...wow. I have to read this and Pride and Prejudice at the same time. :S Or...maybe wait for Pride and Prejudice? That one's awesome...but this is slightly more important. ~_^ |

I read the book a couple times before seeing the movie. I think the parts I remember the most were the the Shire scenes, the Council of Elrond (despite being so long), and Mines of Moria. I haven't read the whole thing since ROTK came out, so I'm lookign forward to rereading it. ![]() |

The first time I read the Fellowship was in sixth grade. 4...5 years ago? I read it for a school project. I got to do a poster on it, and I did the scene where Frodo was being chased by the troll in the mines of Moria. I astonished peole by finishing the whole book in two weeks. But I read it so fast that I didn't really remember much, so I reared it Last year, and it has stuck with me much better. I pick iy up and read random parts a lot. |

The first time I read "The Fellowship of The Ring" I was completely blown away. I never knew how beautiful Middle-earth really was! Tolkein took me on a journey that I am still not getting over. His writing is so descriptive, it feels like you are really there. I took in all the greenery and wonder of Hobbiton, felt so relaxed at Rivendell, cried at the beauty of Lórien; was just as scared as the rest of the Fellowship in the Mines of Moria. It was absolutely wonderful! Since then, I have read all three volumes and am close to finishing "The Silmarillion" a second time. The first movie first inspired me to read the first book. I am so glad they produced them, because if they hadn't I wouldn't have been introduced to the wonderful world of Tolkein, by the way Happy Birthday J.R.R. Tolkein ![]() ~ Námarië, Tenn'enquetielva! I read the book soon after I saw the film (four years ago) because my friend threw it at me. Actually, since it was her mother's tattered copy, she wouldn't have thrown it... but she made me read it all the same. (This being the same friend who dragged me to see the film... ![]() I loved the film - I had been really, really blown away, because I had no idea what to expect, except that it was based on the book written by the man who wrote 'the hobbit'. (This was back in the days when I had a low opinion of the hobbit. I had tried to read it, and couldn't finish it.) I wasn't so impressed with the book... I found parts of it confusing. I hadn't picked up everything seeing the film, either, so I had confusing ideas that the book just proceded to contradict. I was confused when the book differed from I have a feeling I skipped chapters with Tom Bombadil - because I just wanted them to get on with the story! I read it in a night. I have absolutely NO idea how any of that happened... I know that I was much more captivated by the last part of the book, than the first part. I think I then reread it after I read TTT and ROTK... which was several months later... and suddenly decided that I loved the books, and I know I definately reread it when I was given it for Christmas (that year or the next), and I was much, much more intriguied by it, and enjoyed it far more too. I've reread it, in part, many times since then... |

Yes, same...I got The Hobbit for my eleventh? twelfth? I think eleventh birthday, and numerous times had started it and just...not finished. I didn't understand everything, saw it differently (my view of Bilbo and Gollum and Gandalf and such is just soooooo much different now), maybe even thought it was--*gasp*--boring. It wasn't my usual style at the time, and it just didn't grab me. I just knew it was a classic. I don't even remember how far I got...I don't think I even made it to Beorn. Then once I finished LotR, I immediately knew I had to read The Hobbit. And that's what I did. It makes things clearer, and already knowing Bilbo and Gandalf so well--plus knowing more about Gollum--made it quite different. Odd, isn't it? I'll stop babbling now. |

I know EXACTLY what you mean! It took me six months to read about four chapters - and I'm a fast reader who can finish a book in a day! I thought it was boring, and I was disappointed at the lack of female characters... Funny how things change... ![]() |

Well.... The first time I heard about LOTR, I was 11, It was 2000, just some months before the movie was released. Everything started when a friend of mine told me that her mother was reading the books in English (I'm Argentinian) and that she had found them really interesting.... I told her mother to lend them to me and she did so.... but I didn't read them until I saw the first movie.... And I realized that the books were much better that the films!! The fact is that after reading them, I didn't enjoy the movies very much.... |

The first time I read FotR...hmmm...I think I was 12. I absolutely loved the book. I had never read anything quite like it in my life and instantly fell in love with everything about it. |
