Began reading the LOTR books about July last lear, just finished the 3rd one today  pleased but I also feel slightly sad; like "oh that's it now, the end of the Fellowship, like in the films" anyone else feel like this when they finished the books? {I know there's more books and I've ordered some but they aren't the first 3 are they? Not really the same but facinating anyway...}

I know exactly how you feel! I remember getting so excited that I was finishing the trilogy. But when I got to the last page, I was really sad. I was like, "Now there's no more LotR after this. No more names on the waiting list at the library, no staying up until the crack of dawn reading." I was proud of myself for reading them all, but very sad that it was over!
But I was lucky, because I finished reading RotK in Autumn of 1999. About a week after reading them, I saw an article in the paper about Peter Jackson starting filming on the trilogy. I was so excited! But I remember that I can always reread the books, always watch the movies, and I can write fanfiction and talk to you guys until my heart's content!

So true, I'm glad someone feels the same way. I'll give it a month and start the 1st one again! I'm besotted by it, I can't get enough.

A month? When I'd finished I went straight back to the start and started reading it again!

I did the exact same thing. Simply turned over the book.

Congrats on finishing all three books!
Yes, it is rather sad when you get to the end; I especially wish Tolkien's editors had allowed him to include his afterword, which told what happened years later when Elanor was in her teens (not tweens) and Aragorn and Arwen were preparing to visit up north. It's in Tolkien's book called "Sauron Defeated."
At least you can always go back and re-read the books!

OMG, every single time I reread the trilogy I feel sad all the rest of the day. There is like this empty whole in my stomach and a feeling like it is all over. I feel that way too each time I finish watching all of the movies again. Thankfully then the cycle starts all over agian and I read and watch again and again and again, not to mention reading books like The Book of Lost Tales or The Silmarillion.

I'm so glad that other's felt so empty and sad when they'd finished the books. I'm currently reading a dictionary type book called, "The Complete Tolkien Companion" By J.E.A Tyler. It's really interesting.

Woo-hoo! Congrats Evenstar Bearer! I remember nearing the end of RotK and slowing down because I didn't want to finish! But now I've read the Sil, which is amazing, so don't worry you've got lots left to do!
Now you can discuss all three books on the boards!

Ok maybe I will.
However they are extremely detailed and need time and lots of understanding so I'll read a couple of lighter books (which won't take long!) and then get the Silmarillion from the library.
