Th Silmarillion is an amazing book. I love it as much as I love LotR. I can't say I like one or the other better, because...well, I guess I love them both in slightly diferent ways. LotR is more like a normal fantasy novel. The Silmarillion is more difficult to read, and maybe more difficult to love, but I think I feel a deeper connection to it than to LotR.

Well I´ve just began to read Silmarillion and I haven´t finished it yet. At first it really seemed a bit boring and hard reading with plenty of names and places and things to figure out but the further I read it the more it gets fascinating. It just demands a bit concentration to get into it.

Now I think that Silmarillion is even better than LOTR.

My favorite book is 'LotR' - I'm not saying SIL isn't a great book, it is. But reading through the dimension of Middle-Earth, I thought there was a mystic and powerful fantasy in tolkiens book 'LotR'. I think this magic is not in the SIL.

I read the Silmarillion, and.. yeah it was not really boring, but I thought it was very difficult to read. I had/have problems to remeber what I just read and where I was, and all those names.. I was pretty confused, still its a good book, but I probably will not read it again!

ME TOO! :-o I skipped around the dif stories and read the ones that were more or less connected to help me memorize the names. It worked. :-D
One of my fave books ever! Like it better than the Chronicles of Narnia

I loved it! I love almost all books I read, but Silmarillion really stands out. The sytle of writing a huge web of legendary stories as opposed to a large mass of interconnected plotlines all happening at once makes for an interesting contrast betweern the trilogy and the Silmarillion.

Have I stated my opinion about the book? well, anyhoo, when I first read it I..kinda stopped reading it..cause I thought it was..boring..:eyeroll:

Then I picked it up again last year and loooved it! I guess I thought the beginning was a little dull..but other than that, the stories furthemore in the book were the best.

I absolutely loved the Silmarillion! Mainly because it has so many Elves in it, and I love nearly every story with Elves in it. And because it was very interesting to learn more about Middle Earth. The Silmarillion answered a lot of questions I had about Lord of the Rings. Without the Silmarillion, everything was incomplete like. Though it took me a while to read it completely.

The Sil is awesome. I found out if you get bored reading it from cover to cover you can always skip around.

Wow. People find the Silmarillion boring? Are you serious?! It's awsome! Actually, I must admit, I didn't like it all that much the first time, but I read it again and I love it! All the elves, and maia, and...stuff! I dunno, it's just awsome! Tolkien's my idol. When I read it I forget that it's a fictional story(s) and think it's really our history. It's so detailed and beautifully written!
