So if i read the Silmarillion the first time it was quite difficult to understand but with the time it became easyer and so more interessting. At the end i still read it over and over again because it's fantastic. I like the Storys very much, they are all written in a way which allows to read them many times so that someone can lost in Middle-earth and the storys there.

hmm yeah it was a good read.slightly slow at parts when you dont need all that much description of something or other.and its slightly distracting how every now and then we skip a couple hundred years or so,its hard to grasp an idea of the timeline.most of the stories in it were kinda depressing.but, saying that,i thought it was a worthwhile novel and quite a masterpiece of imagination.

oh,dont get me wrong,i like the detailed descriptions but what i mean is when there are very long passages where a lot is said but very little happens.

I am intrigued by all Tolkien works. I've read the hobbit and the lotr trilogy and plan to read the Silmariilion, but what is the main plot behind it?

The Silmarillion is definitely a good book. It can seem a bit dull at times, and I admit that I had to force myself to read parts of it, but it's worth it. I"m currently rereading it, and that's helping me to notice parts I missed. If you think that you didn't understand part of The Silmarillion, rereading really benefits.

And I'd suggest reading in parts... meaning if you have some sort of ADD or you get bored really easily, read a chapter or two a day. They're all essentially different little stories, but they all flow into one another. It's WAY easier to get through it that way.

for me it was actually the other way around. I kinda felt that everything builds on the information given at the beginning of the book and so there was more and more information you had to know for understanding the later parts of the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Sil. It DID take me two years to officially pick it up off of the shelf--I'd read two pages and then get distracted or take a nap, just because there is so much detail in the beginning. It reminds me of Fellowship of the Ring--the beginning is rough, but once you get to the third or fourth chapter, it's impossible to stop.

one thing I found helpful--I bought an illustrated version of the Sil and it helped things make more sense... AND it was fun to look at the pictures!!

:-D
