Definently Luthien, such a beautiful story. I liked Aredhel as well and Galadriel of course.

Um...I liked Nienor Niniel best... though Aredhel is a close one.
I dont see why Luthien is so popular... frankly..I thought the tale of B&L was..uhh..dull..too romancy.

Lúthien Tinuviel was the most beautiful of all of the Children of Iluvatar. Why shouldn't she be really popular, among the guys at least?
*gasp* You changed your name, TN!!!!!! O_O

Does beauty really mean all that much?
Yes, Lúthien was pretty, actually the most beautiful of Iluvatar's children (but who are supposed to judge that? lol), but she has so many other qualities which are rarely mentioned...

yeah exactly. I mean she was the most beautiful of the children of Iluvatar, but I think beauty is not everything. After all she also had many other powers which helped her and Beren get the Silmaril which is a mayor reason for her to be really popular I think.

I simply stated the biggest reason. I know there is far more that makes her the coolest female charcter in The Silmarillion, but that's the most common one. I love her loyalty/love for Beren, and the fact that it's her rescuing him all the time instead of vice-versa.

It's been a while, so I can't remember as well. But out of the choices I would say Luthien. I do not choose her because she's popular; I just remember being captivated by her story, and yeah, it was so cool that she casted a spell on Morgoth.
I remember reading it and thinking that was who they wanted to pattern the movie Arwen after, even though the real Arwen is not QUITE so much like that! O_O

Morwen, yes she was pretty, but she was strong ans stubborn. It took a lot to get her to leave her country and go to Doriath.

I like Luthien best, because she's awesome and I've read her story sooooo many times (in the Sil and different versions in the HoMe series). Aredhel is my second-favorite though, I felt really sorry for her when she died.

w00t! Another Lúthien fan! We rock.
Lúthien is the best. Well, the best female. She still comes in second to Finrod, Glorfindel, Beren, etc., but she's awesome.

I think Merwen is way cooler than Lúthien. The problem is I made her up so nobody knows her....

....you tried to make somebody cooler than Lúthien? o_O It's impossible for Tolkien's world. *nod* Absolutely impossible for there to be a female (non-Valar) cooler than Lúthien.

Hmm....Melian has always been an unusual character, in my opinion. She's always seemed really distant and 'powerful' in my opinion, not directly connected with most of the events in the story, but one way or another contributing to it/them.
I like Lúthien the best. Then Galadriel. Then Aredhel or Idril. Then Elwing. Well, of the Elves, that is. Actually.....probably of the Valier, as well.

My favorite Silmarillion female is definitely Lúthien. Not only was she quite gifted when it came to magic (which I like an awful lot), but she didn't sit and wait. She rebelled against her father and escaped, a daring measure I highly respect. Second, I seem to have a fascination with powerful elfs; a commoner as beautiful as Lúthien I would find boring because she had no authority. Thirdly, Lúthien is beautiful. Ugly heroines aren't the favorites of many people, not that Tolkien made any. I also like Melian and Galadriel.
