I think Merwen is way cooler than Lúthien. The problem is I made her up so nobody knows her.... :-D

....you tried to make somebody cooler than Lúthien? o_O It's impossible for Tolkien's world. *nod* Absolutely impossible for there to be a female (non-Valar) cooler than Lúthien.

Hmm....Melian has always been an unusual character, in my opinion. She's always seemed really distant and 'powerful' in my opinion, not directly connected with most of the events in the story, but one way or another contributing to it/them.

I like Lúthien the best. Then Galadriel. Then Aredhel or Idril. Then Elwing. Well, of the Elves, that is. Actually.....probably of the Valier, as well.

My favorite Silmarillion female is definitely Lúthien. Not only was she quite gifted when it came to magic (which I like an awful lot), but she didn't sit and wait. She rebelled against her father and escaped, a daring measure I highly respect. Second, I seem to have a fascination with powerful elfs; a commoner as beautiful as Lúthien I would find boring because she had no authority. Thirdly, Lúthien is beautiful. Ugly heroines aren't the favorites of many people, not that Tolkien made any. I also like Melian and Galadriel.

I didn't like Luthien much... she seemed a bit jerk-ish to me :erm:
I really like Melian and Vána

My favorite Tolkien female has always been Galadriel, because she's just... awesome. And her name is kind of similar to mine XD
I also really like Nerdanel, because she doesn't get much attention, but she must have been really cool (and incredible strong and patient to get along with Feanor! :D)

oh I definitely admire Nerdanel, too, because she could get along with Feanor. And also, I think she must've been quite powerful, because she was the only elf that Feanor ever received council from.

Of the names in this poll, it has to be the Morningstar.
However, Varda always caught my fancy.

That's a hard choice....I'm not sure wheter I should vote for Lúthien or Galadriel..they both fascinate me...I think I'll have to go with Galadriel though...I just like her a little bit more...

Okay.. I didn't know this poll included the Valier also..
but anyway.. I like Luthien the best. Before I read the Sil, all I knew about her was that she was related to Arwen and that Arwen was kind of.. moulded like Luthien. I didn't like Arwen much, so I thought Luthien would be worse..
but after reading the Sil, my opinion changed completely.. I really respect her

Difficult... Luthien I'd have to say. Although Melian is close.

She has a very difficult task to love a mortal, and their pursuit of Silmarils is quite amazing. This requires not from other people, though...

My favorite is Luthien. I love how she would do anything for Beren. It's so amazing how she gives up her immortality and marries him. I also like her because she's so much like Arwen. Her father discourages her love toward a human, but she gives up her immortality anyway.
