This is what I posted on another topic:
I'd like to live in an Elven haven. I'd rather live in Lothlorien, though, since I like how secluded and mysterious it is. Rivendell seems like a more...cheerful, social Elf place, whereas Lothlorien seems like everyone speaks in hushed voices and leaves each other alone.. Still, there are enough Elves so you aren't lonely. That's just how I feel.
What's your opinion?

Definantly the opposite. I would love Rivendell, with all the feasts, dancing, singing, playing of instruments. I think it's quiet there too, and peaceful with all the water and nature. I could definantly find plenty of elves to talk to, since most of the elves there are pretty talkative. No one in Rivendell ever feels lonely or unwelcome!

Rivendell. I like to be among people most of the time, because I really don't like being lonely. So I guess I like Rivendell more. They would make me welcome! So I voted for Rivendell.

I voted Rivendell, not really for the social part, but because it's so peaceful and calm, Lothlorien seems a lot darker and more mysterious

How much knowledge does Tolkien actually provide us with on Imladris and Lothlórien? My general impression on the two places is similar to the way Ktstar describes it, but does anyone remember more?
As far as I remember most of the information is given through the LotR trilogy when Frodo comes to Rivendell and later when the Fellowship journeys to Lothlórien, but what else is said about it?

I don't know... But when I see the movies I choose Rivendell, but I would visit Lothlorien every two or three years. It's sad I don't remember much from the dicriptions given in the book.

I would rather live in Rivendell, though Lothlorien is beautiful and peaceful, Rivendell just seems to fit me better. The beauty and history behind the last homely house is just fascinating, and it is a good place to read a book!

I can't decide my Elf friends. I like both place 2 much 2 leave 1 out.
Rivendel is soo cheerful and peaceful, and there r Elves evrywhere but there r also a few visitos around. the rivers the tress the sun light evrthing is so awsome. There is a lot of company around u.
Lothlorien is soo mysterious, it's also kind of drak but beautiful, peaceful, and amaizing. but there r Elves everywhere also. I love Elves. And there is also a lot of company around u.
U will never feel lonley in both places.
I think I rather b a traveler. So that I get 2 stay in both places.

I agree exactly. I think Rivendell holds more occasion, which I like. But I love the beauify of Rivendell more than I do of Lothlorien...

Aye! This is a toughie. I voted for Lothlorien, though I would prefer to switch back and forth between the two like Arwen did. But there's something about Lorien that draws me...

Hmmm, now that I see some good points about Lothlorien. I think I'll live in Rivendell and own a summer condo at Lothlorien.
Okay, maybe not. But I do think that I'd like to visit Lothlorien for vacation while living at Rivendell.

Elves with summer houses isn't ridiculous - it's only slightly ridiculous. *sniffs and blows nose*

compared to?
I don't know about you but I've always thought of Tom Bombadil wearing yellow boots like that silly kid show Paddlington bear, where the bear lives in his rain coat and boots
