Pelennor Fields ... waaaay more exciting and a bit less depressing for me *sob* my poor Haldir... :'(

Well overall, Pelennor Fields was better anyway ... Helm's Deep was excellent, but it didn't have half as much action and excitement! :P

Helm's Deep. I liked Uruk's dance before attacking. And the scene when Gimli jumped over Uruks. Legolas rushed down the stairs and haunted Uruks down one by one. And Aragorn's staring at the window and say the word that "Ride out and meet them". And crushing of Uruks as the last of Rohan raiders ride through them and at dawn, Eomer and Gandalf's arrival with the Rohirrim behind moved to the Uruks and crushed them.

This is why I liked the Helm's Deep

I loved Helm's Deep, but I've gotta say that Pelenor Fields is my favorite. RotK was the only one of the books that I read completely before seeing the movie, and that chapter actually got me a bit teary-eyed, which is a first for a book. I guess it was because my trigger for tears isn't tragedy or death, but rather self-sacrifice and riding to battle even when you know you'll probably lose. The Ride of the Rohirrim especially is exactly that, and it remains my favorite part of both the books and the movies.

I did prefer the book version of Helm's Deep to the movie version, though. I mean, I love the Galadhrim as much as anyone else, but the whole point of the battle was that the world of Men was now alone and had to fight to survive. I also loved the Glittering Caves, which didn't make it into the movie.

So...yeah. Helm's Deep was awesome, but Pelenor takes the cake.

I loved the battle at Helm's Deep, but the Pelennor Fields is so completely awesome you couldn't choose anything else.

And as this is the book section, you don't have to worry about Haldir dying in the battle Haldir o Lorien, because he wasn't there. And you also need to remember that it wasn't Eomer who was with Gandalf, but erkenbrand at the head of a thousand foot soldiers.

but yeah, I loved the unification of the different parts of Gondor and Rohan in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. w00t for prince Imrahil. To use potr's expression, Pelennor takes the cake :D

*feeels nice and geeky after his short tirade*

I didn't realize that this was in the BOOK section. It should be in the movie section... but it's fine here, I guess. :)

I think the Battle of Pellenor is a tad overrated. In fact, my opinion differs from books to movies- For the movies, my favourite battle is Helm's Deep. My only real fave part of Pellenor is when the Rohirrim charge the rear of the Orcs. For the books, my fave is Pellenor. :)

I voted for Helm's deep. I love Gimli and Legolas' contest, and how we have two sep. battles in one, with Eomer and others trapped in the cave. Plus the Hurons appearing--awesome!

I think I enjoyed Pellenor Fields the best. There's that feeling of doubt as to whether everyone will make it out alive, and the terrible fact that the good side is badly outnumbered.
PJ did a good job of cutting in between the battle scene and Frodo and Sam at Mt. Doom to make it more suspensful.

ooh.... That's a hard one.... Helm's Deep is cooler because it has more actual fighting with the main characters, but Plennor Fields is great cuz of Eowyn and Merry.... So I can't really say.

I thought the Pelennor Fields was a bit more exciting. The part with Eowyn and Merry against the Witchking is one of my favourites. I did like the book version of Helm's Deep alot too.

In terms of the books, Helm's Deep can't compare with the Pelennor Fields - that is such an awesome battle. Far bigger than Helm's Deep, and much cooler with the suspense of whether or not Aragorn will arrive in time.

Tough question. can i pick both??? helms deep has awesome moments like the elves coming, orcs waiting outside, legolas adn gimli competing, gandalf coming, ppl getting ready for battle etc etc. in pelenor fields the arrival of the rohirrims, oliphants, witch king etc etc was awesome. so... basically i cant decide and that both battles rock!

Well, this is for the books, not the movies, so technically, the elves never came. However, everything else you mentioned in your post did happen in the books, though not exactly in the same way.
