Thanks Taur! Another request.

I was browsing the guestbook and saw someone wondering where the humor had gone. Can you make a post letting people know that all the games and humor have moved from "Miscellaneous" to "Fun"? (Also, if other people want to periodically look through the guestbook, it helps us know what's going well and what needs looked at. ;) )

Post subject:  Re: REVIVAL 2012

I need a little bit of advice from anyone out there who may know some image hosting sites.

I'm moving onto to revamping the hi-res images. I know Arwen is using Imageshack, and I just planned on creating my own thumbnails and linking the same images to imageshack as well. But I have stored on my computer over 100 hi-res images I plan on adding to these galleries.

Now I thought I was doing a pretty good thing by finding these 3000x3000 images, some smaller, some bigger, but when I look at the file size, there are quite a few that are 5.00 MB and over. And looking around at imageshack and other places, it looks like there is no way they will accept an image that big.

Which is a bummer as it would have been really nice to have such large and good quality images.

So I guess there are three options here:
- If I upload them to AU is that going to take up loads of space (I guess it is)
- Should I just resize them (although I found them on other sites around the net so someone uploaded them through something)
- Is there a lesser known site that will provide me with the space I need?

I know imageshack charge for the extra space, but it's per month. Does that mean if I paid the money for one month, and upload everything in that month I'd be OK NOT paying the rest of the months? I don't know how that would work.... and how long I could keep using my brothers paypal account without him noticing. :teehee:

So if anyone has an opinion on what you think may be best, I'd like to hear it. I'm hoping someone more image savvy than me might know of a site that will allow us to keep the large images.

The big problem with Imageshack (as you may have noticed by now) is that the images will be deleted after a certain amount of time. When I first linked the pages, I had to delete about 20 images total, and now there are still more that aren't active. I don't know where else to look off the top of my head, but looking for a new place is definitely a good plan.

I currently have an imageshack account that is about 1000 images over what is accepted, hence why they are deleting them.

I think if they were part of an account (and I may be wrong in saying I don't think when Arwen uploaded them to AU you needed an account to fully use all the imageshack codes whereas now you need one), an account that wouldn't be over 500 images, then I think that maybe they would be safe from being deleted.

I will look into that. As although it would be annoying to cut down some of the images, I'd rather use a site I know like imageshack than one that doesn't seem to have many recommendations from anyone. But if it definitely looks like imageshack will delete them whether they're from an account, then we will have to find somewhere else for them. I think I'll save the images to my computer for now, just in case anymore go missing.

I just don't quite understand how some 2000x2000 images are 1.1KB and something of the same size is 5MB.

OK, so I have fully explored imageshack and yes, as long as an account is made and the limit is not over 500 images then the pictures will stay there forever. It seems that when you don't use an account to host images, you need a certain amount of clicks per year for that image, in order for imageshack to keep hosting it, so I guess some of the hi-res images were less popular than others.

And I also very slightly resized some of the images I have over 5MB and they suddenly went down massively in size. So I think that we're probably OK sticking to imageshack, as our pictures will be safe and the quality will be good.

I'll set up a general AU account, and we'll see how we go from there. :-)

EDIT: I'm not sure why when I am downloading one of the AU images, it's less than half the size the thumbnail says it is. Instead of Elrond being 2000+ when I save it to my computer, it's like 800x600. I'm not sure where I can find the original large image Arweb uploaded.

I don't know why it's doing that either. Apparently on imageshack it's been "scaled up" from the 800xwhatever to be larger when you click, but I can't find an actual large file anywhere.

Nuts. So far one I downloaded was the proper size. So I'll probably go through them all and see which are small and which are large, and then I guess I'll have to try and find a replacement if I can.

Just when I thought it was going to be simple. Haha. :teehee:

I was wondering if we should ditch the chatroom. No one seems to use it anymore and whenever someone logs in he/she will find it completely empty. A lot of people also has problems with the Java. I don't think it's worth keeping any longer.

Opinions?

That may be a good idea, Ea. If no one really uses it then I say it should go.

I'd say keep it mainly from the perspective of moving it from the header will be a nightmare and will mean the bottom line of links will have to be completely re-arranged. :P

 I'm with you, JF. Though I have no problem with removing it the next time we update the layout, because it is a very dead place.

Perhaps a different chat service would be better, something that is more modern and is more compatible with people's browsers.

I don't like chatrooms, so I will be all ok with removing it :teehee:
