Several of the members that used to be on regularly seem to have dwindled recently. I am wondering if anyone out there is even still trying for the revival idea. I know Synariel still wants to but has been very busy outside of the forum.

Anyone else? And if so what ideas are you willing to put effort into?

I was into it when it felt like it was worth it. Wrote a bunch of bios and whatnot. But now, with so few people here and active, I genuinely want to focus more on other things. I'm an admin on two other forums and a mod on a third. I have my plate full with online things and would only add AU to the list if we were a group of people putting solid time into it.

I have kind of drifted away from here, only dropping in when I'm riding by maybe once a month these days. Don't see much happening. Been involved in an RP tale on another Tolkien board that has been consuming my available time online.

That said, this place seems to have a quite stable platform compared to other places. Would like to see it have some sort of revival, but if the interest isn't there, then it will remain somewhat of a ghost town.

I would like to be more active on this forum, but I don't know how to get more members to this place. Jax Nova tried a while ago.

Yeah and sadly it sounds like we lost him for a while. I'm not sure either, I don't have an internet connection at my house so I can't be on here often enough.

Indeed, Jax will be missed here. To bad you don't have internet at home. I have internet but little time. But still, this is a good place to visit regularly.

Agreed, I still love to frequent this site when I have time.

People's lack of time to commit seems to be the issue. With the movie whirlwind of 2001-2004 largely blown over, and the slight breeze caused by the Hobbit movies rippling the water a little, general interest in Middle Earth has subsided greatly in the general populace. Of course, there will be us fanatics, but to get all the dedicated Middle Earth nerds here together at one time... well, it will be hard.

That said, I will be bringing some of my writings here to the Story Forum. And I would even consider a good well written collaborative writing RP as well. I may float some ideas and see if there is any expressed interest. :)

Well, one thing that could be done if we got the staff on board is to advertise the non-LotR sections more. Expand them, and sort of still have it be a LotR forum (obviously) while making it so that more people who aren't totally into the books/movies might enjoy hanging here anyway.

Yeah. That has been tried with another board I was on in the hey day of the first 3 movies (Ringbearer.org). They re-invented themselves in 2009 when traffic and usage was way down as a wider 'fandom' site called 'Rememberthebalrog.org to incorporate Dr Who, Harry Potter, Stargate Star Wars, Startrek, etc. etc., with the site name being a nod to its predecessor. After an initial spike in numbers, it soon tapered back to a few regulars and a few sporadics, with new folk not staying around. In the end, it suddenly disappeared a few months ago when the domain name was not renewed.

I myself was considering a site that would be ONLY for Tolkien's written works and for written fanfics and collaborative RP, with all PJ fanfic movie discussion not allowed except for reference to the actual tale in the books. It may only have a dozen people, but they would be dedicated.

Being that this site is founded on the central role of Arwen and Liv Tyler's starring role in the PJ fanfics, so that model would not work here.

I guess before investing my time and energy into providing content for this site, it would be good to know the details of ownership of domain, site support, etc for this place, for I wouldn't want it to just suddenly disappear due to costs involved to maintain a low use messageboard.

I've seen it tried with other forums too, but what we can pretty much know it won't do is kill it anymore than it already is.

Well, I joined on Oct. 2 and have been as active as I can. I check in twice a day usually and hang around for however long I am online.

I belong to another site and have made lots of friends there. But, like here, some members post regularly and some join and are never seen again. I don't know what can be done to get people to come back or new ones to join.

Word of mouth can possibly bring in new members. But there is no one in my real life that has any interest in Tolkien. I know there is more to this site than Tolkien so I will see what I can do.

How about digging deep and bringing up some old threads? There are a lot of topics here. That, at least, will keep us busy.

Is there any way to get in touch with members and tell them to come back and give this site a try again?

Yeah, it is nice to see you active and all. I have contact every single forum member on thenlist that have any contact info in their profile. I have also promoted the site on other websites as much as Incould without being a nusense. Like you, however I have nonpeople in my real life that like Tolkien.

I have also tried reviving as many old threads as possible but I am usually the only one who would post and if someone else does it doesn't last long. A few comments back and forth and then it dies out.

It does make it hard at times when only usually two people have the conversation, hopefully especially with some new faces it pick up.

Indeed. That is my hope as well.

I think all the old ideas are still worth doing and we should all continue to try them when able but the biggest thing (obviously) we just need to find a place where LOTR fans gather other than another forum. Somewhere that they are actually looking for RP or or LOtR discussion and interaction.

The language part of the site is a good resource and there are a few members who know a LOT (unfortunately not myself) so that could also be a drawing point (and has been in the past) but then if those members don't stay active. (As life tends to demand) that atraction dies out.

We need younger fans. Peole who don't have. Full time job and a family of their own and all that other stuff to keep them busy. Fans who have hours a day to stay on the internet etc...
