Apparently negotiations are under way for a Hobbit Trilogy. New Line obviously likes the idea, but there's going to be some grappling with the Tolkien estate as some of the material for an extra movie is not available with the current movie license.

What does every body else think?

What the hell? How can The Hobbit be a trilogy?? It's such a tiny book! Lame...

^ The Hobbit itself would be one movie still, but they'd be making more about Middle-earth apparently.

I think they should be careful not to overdo it. I'm thrilled that they're making the Hobbit, but then there's this mysterious "Film 2" that has already been negotiated and they don't even really know what it's going to be about. [s]Now they're thinking about making another one?! It sounds a bit like they're trying to cash in. (Particularly the bit about "wizards at the academy." Is it Startrek now?!) On top of that another film will slow down production on the Hobbit, I'm guessing, which would just drive me insane.[/s]

:duh:

April Fool's, TheOneRing.net! :teehee:
It's a prank!

Still, I feel my bit about the second movie holds up okay. :P

In before the lock

Omg! I can't believe I fell for that! Where I am in Australia, we're one day behind  My bad.

But a Wizards Academy? This isn't Harry Potter, I'm so glad that's not going ahead!

Lock away, Mods.

XD

And there I was, about to give my views on why it might not be bad to have more LOTR films... although I was suspicious of how real this was when the wizards academy was mentioned..... they know the fans of LOTR to well to even think that they could get away with that storyline.

This one isn't a prank:
http://the-hobbit-movie.com/2009/06/06/ ... bit-movie/

Apparently, as the second film turns more into The Hobbit: Part 2 instead of the original bridging movie it was supposed to be, New Line is considering the possibility of a third movie to be the bridging movie.

I like the idea of one long narrative, but I am wary (as always) of them making it up. All they have to go on is facts in a time line, and I'm concerned about it feeling inauthentic.

I think it will be ok. All of the Lord of the Rings movies could have been put into two, and the Hobbit has more stuffed into it than Lord of the Rings.

As far as the bridging movie, I would see how that would worry you, but I trust that they know what they are doing by now, and they are sure to keep it as close to Tolkien as they can.
