It would make a bit of sense if they did. I was originally hoping that Figwit was perhaps one of Elrond's sons, but that bubble was burst when later they had him call Arwen "My lady". It would be a great nod to the fans to include him though.

Ha! I was just reading an article about this as well on the Daily What. They cited this news source:

They also said that he might be playing an Elf named Lindir and possibly have a singing part (but that part, may just be their musings ) But, he will always be Figwit in my hearrrtttt. <3

Bigwit sounds like someone is bigheaded to me lol! But yeah, I hear about the Lindir thing! I just think it's pretty cool they're bringing an old fan favorite into the movie like that.

Yeah, it's great that they remember the fans. After all, if not for us, they probably wouldn't be making The Hobbit! Anyway, I read on TORn that in the book, Lindir is the person who asks for an encore of Bilbo's song at Rivendell. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But it's nice that they're including more book characters!
