I can see your point arweb & Lith, but I think they appear that way because they're staged photoshoot photo's. I can't really remember what LotR promo images we got before the films came out, but I think they were all very much screencap type things, rather than a photoshoot type thing. Movie Marketing has moved on since LotR, and because The Hobbit is so eagerly anticipated I think it's a shrewd promotion scene to drip feed a variety of media sites character designs to work up excitement and spread the news of the Hobbit

I see your point, too (so many points being seen ), but having collected LotR images for years for the A-U gallery, I'm pretty familiar with all the photos that were released. Sure, there were a lot of screencap-like stills, but we also got glorious publicity images like this:



That black and white series is one of my favorites ever - the one of Boromir is just stunning. There were also publicity stills like this:



Professionally-lit, posed, not a screencap...but it still doesn't look like bloody concept art. I realise that photography and processing have progressed a LOT since the publicity work for the trilogy, but I personally don't find the semi-HDR look appealing for the stills. It makes some of the more comical-looking dwarves look like (as I said before) they belong in a video game

But they're attractive!! All of them are attractive! It's like The Tudors.. everyone knows people in Tudor-England weren't model-like beauties and least of all Henry VIII, but not despite of this, but because of this the series was so attractive too!

People like attractive people.. (oh, Kili ).. Even Bombur looks.. good!

I missed those publicity photos, I've never seen them. Hate to say it, but I didnt want to see the first movie because I thought the orcs looked scary. So I didn't pay attention to any publicity for it, so I missed all the Aragorn goodness of those publicity shots.

Still Guy of Gisbourne Thorin looks completely amazing- is anyone else completely impressed at the way Orcrist looks- I was worried it wasn't going to look elven enough, but you can definitely see the links to Sting/Glamdring in the design

Oh and did anyone else who got this month's empire magazine (with Gandalf on the cover!!!) catch the comparison of Bombur to Obelix from Asterix an Obelix... I thought he looked kinda familiar
