I am so ridiculously excited for Mirkwood! And Thranduil! And the elves! Actually the whole movie is just going to be spectacular with Beorn and Will Turner Bard and Smaug and THRANDUIL and then all the stuff about the Necromancer that I don't really know much about so that will be exciting to see on screen!

^ So glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thinks Bard looks like Will Turner/Orlando Bloom. I can't wait to see Legolas and Bard together on screen

I LOVE the way Mirkwood looks! The autumn colours (always a plus), the amazing bridge-y architecture among the trees, and oh man I can't wait to see other parts of it. And Thranduil. He looks amazing, his voice is amazing, and his crown is also amazing. What's not to love?

Downside of the Mirkwood part: a bit too much attention for the Elves for my taste. The Hobbit is still mainly about the Quest for Erebor, and now it seems more like one big Legolas-commercial. Never thought I'd complain about too much Legolas, but now I do. I just hope the main focus of the movie will still be on Bilbo and Thorin & Company.

And Smaug's voice gave me goosebumps, which is good. I just wonder why it sounded so computerized, it wouldn't have been necessary to alter anything to Benedict Cumberbatch's voice.

But overall: YAY! Yay for the return of brooding Thorin, who apparently didn't get all mellow-hearted after cuddling Bilbo, and yay for more Middle Earth history, and yay for Bilbo being awesome in general

true, I certainly don't mind the amount of elves in the movie but it shouldn't be shown so much on the trailer when the mail focus is the Company and their quest.
I loved seeing the scene when Thorin cuts off Bilbo, Thorin looks like he's going MAD and Bilbo is like which I loved, I love how the dragon sickness is starting to show..also found it interesting that he (Thorin) has the dwarven sword and not Orcrist..those who read the book knows why that is, and I'm glad we know it DOES happen.
I also LOVED the part where Bilbo picks up the Ring from the floor then puts his hand in his mouth like "omg I almost lost it, but OMG I'm starting to be REALLY addicted to it!", I thought it was very significant.

Just knowing that makes me so happy. I found the whole brooding king in exile, fallen hero thing very attractive. (I have issues, I'm aware of that. LOL.) If Thorin got all nice and mellow, that'd ruin the whole movie for me.

It's okay, I feel exactly the same way Never has a hairy and cranky man seemed so attractive!

To be honest, his moody character was what annoyed me the most about him in the book, but seeing more of his background explained in the first movie helped to understand exactly why he became so moody. And a cheerful, smiling Thorin would be just wrong. He needs to be arrogant and disdainful, especially towards Bilbo, or it wouldn't be Thorin.

And in addition to my previous post: the music was also good. It sounds like we'll get some interesting new themes to go with the new locations. I'm really looking forward to hearing the soundtrack for the new movie!

In the book, I liked him as a character, but not enough to be a favourite character. The film changed all that.

Strange thing though. Richard Armitage in costume, acting in character, very attractive. Richard Armitage as himself, not acting, nothing.

I bet the music is awesome. I can't wait to get the soundtrack, and listen to the music over and over.

So, it's more of a character crush with you, Erin Vanya? Not with me, it's not. Unlike my PotC favorites, my Tolkien ones always end up crossing over into real life for some reason. From Frodo to Thorin, I'm always a fan of both. Not that it makes you any less of a fan if it's just the character, you're just a different type of fan.

And Thorin all nice and mellow? I want a divorce (not really, so sorry Erin)! I always seem to be more drawn to characters that are a little on the tougher side (ones that some people would be afraid to approach, though I wouldn't) like Thorin, Barbossa (from PotC) and the Witch-King of Angmar.

I'm not sure what it is. It's kinda like Orlando Bloom as Legolas, hot. Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, nothing.

Finding Thorin attractive in the film didn't instantly make him my favourite character out of all the cast. I still like him the same as I did before, I just can't help admiring him on screen. Thorin is still one of the characters that I liked, along with Bilbo, and the rest of the dwarves. I liked him as character before I even saw the film.

I am looking forward to the second move though, because it has my favourite bits in it. Mirkwood, the battle of the five armies. When Bilbo talks with Smaug.
