Contains some spoilers I saw it on opening night and I loved it! Jackson's version made it more fleshier with delightful characters, exciting action sequences, and a superb ending. I was also thrilled with the addition of the scene where Gandalf encourages Thorin to take back Erebor, a scene from one of the appendices.

Yeah, I'm all for more Thorin backstory scenes.

There is a thing that is a bit weird. When Bilbo hits the spider to its back, and then takes the ring off and says "here", and strikes Sting into its head, the spider says "It stings!", how can Bilbo understand the spider without the ring? Before that, Bilbo can understand the spider-language only with the ring on his finger, so how he can do that without it??

That's weird, I have no idea!!^^^ As I have said before, Tauriel wasn't that bad at all. The only thing I'm worried about is what their going to do with her. I assume they are going to make her all annoying when Kili dies (knowing PJ) but what happens after that? I don't want to think about it! If they kill her...I am a already going to be a mess, having to sit through Kili, Fili, and Thorin's deaths...one more death and I am dead! Ok. Maybe that is a bit exaggerative. But, I will be really embarrassed, leaving the theater in tears which I nearly did for DoS. Anyway...Thorin was sooooo amazing! My brothers thought I would be mad at him for making Kili stay behind, but no, surprisingly, I wasn't. I guess I knew that Kili would die in Erebor with no chance, whereas in Laketown, there was a little hope. Plus, I knew Kili couldn't die in this movie, although, I will admit that I was shocked when he got shot by the morgul shaft. One thing I really disliked, the healing thing was rather awkward. I got the point of it, but it was still awkward. My row of family was restless, laughing and whispering at that scene, while Elenia and I were trying to watch it. I'm not going to rant about that scene, it was just a little...odd. The music for that scene (the kingsfoil track) is really pretty though.

Thranduil is very good, although he also gives something of an impression that he might have a more tragic story that his arrogance suggests. What did he have to do with the firedrakes of the North? Why don't we get an amazing flashback of that?
Yes Yes Yes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that in the extended edition, or maybe #3 when they go off to the battle of five armies. Lhunardaien wrote: And I hope there will be more White Council in the next movie. Elrond and Galadriel better step in to help Gandalf somehow, instead of leaving him in that cage for who knows how long. And I'm wondering to see what Bilbo will do with the Arkenstone, since I assume he already has it now. Although it would be a miracle if he could have kept it during that chase through the mines... Yes. On all counts. Nienor Níniel wrote: There is a thing that is a bit weird. That's the only explanation that doesn't sound silly... legolin12 wrote: the healing thing was rather awkward. I got the point of it, but it was still awkward. Yup. And for continuities sake... wouldn't she be glowing BEFORE she heals him because he was effected by the morgul arrow? (The glow in FOTR was due to Frodo turning into a wraith, and the elves are all glowy and awesome in the "shadow world" because they're elves...). That is honestly what made it the most awkward for me... I was chill with the healing until she went WHABAM GLOW. No idea if that made sense. I'm getting sassy/tired.

Is it alright for me to like the movies as only movies, but not as adaptations? I like how the Dwarf characters are more individualized. And there are certain scenes I rather like in both films. (There needed to be more dragon though.)

I need to watch it again, 4th or 5th time.. I hope I don't watch The Hobbit 2 so many times that I did with the first movie. I went to the movies about 10 times. Or more.

Instead of complaining about the movie, im choosing to like the book and movie separately, in their own ways. Nienor Níniel wrote: I need to watch it again, 4th or 5th time.. Im going to watch it again in 3D hopefully, then I'll wait for the DVD

Something I was wondering if I saw right... Did Thorin save Legolas from an Orc? Because I'm pretty sure that happened during the barrel escape.

^^ That happened. Thorin has said that he hates elves and keeps them as enemies, so why to save one of them?

^ I think there's a difference between hating someone, and do nothing when you see he's about to die in front of you. I thought that even though Thorin can't stand Thranduil and therefore strongly dislikes the Elves, he wouldn't go so far as to do nothing when he could have saved someone from death. After all, he thinks highly of courage, loyalty and honor.

besides the fact he wouldn't just let someone die because he hates a race (I'd like to think he's better than that), I think he shot the orc because he's an ORC, not to save anyone.

^^ That makes sense and doesn't create a paradox.

That makes sense. Though it would be kinda funny if that happened again in the battle next movie. Legolas: You saved my life, again! Thorin: Uh, well... I was trying to kill Orcs, you got in the way. Btw, you should give back that Elf sword. Legolas: Ada said I could keep it, as it looks good with my hair. Thorin: *swears in Dwarvish*

Lol, but by then Thorin will probably be dead I loved the part where legolas is questioning Gloinn about his "brother" and "orc mutant"
