The latest information is that Saul Zaentz, the very senior producer of many films, believes it will get done. However, there's two licensing issues, book and merchandise licensing for the Hobbit. Zaentz's company already owns the merchandise licensing for Hobbit, but yes, the movie rights are still up in the air.
I'll try to find the links to his interview.

bad news pplz (well for us anyway).ive heard PJ is now going to make another movie called The Dam Breakers.its about World War 2.

Geez- How many movies does PJ have lined up now?? Like, three?? When will he ever get to the Hobbit??  I understand needing a break- I mean, LotR was a HUGE project, and then King Kong.... but all the same- three movies??

I would love to see The Hobbit made But i have my doubts...Cause if Peter jackson wanted to he would have done it before the Lord of The Rings. But oh well i have no clue in what hes Going to do in the future. If somone else made it the could Ruin it all.

Yeah I've read the book and I really hope it's made into a movie  , but I tell ya if sumone other than PJ makes the movie  I'll never get over it and it would be so disapointing. I'd be so upset that I'd crawl into a hole and stay there for weeks lol (not joking)  I'm such a huge Tolkien freak and I wouldn't want his movie made by sumone other than PJ and that's that !

I've checked and checked on his bio, and there's no indication that he's making the Hobbit anytime soon in the future.

I believe it willll be made, but by who and when is another matter.
I am a HUGE supporter of Peter, but if the Hobbit is going to be made soon (which I'm pretty sure it won't =/ ) , I don't think it would be by him for some sad reason.
I think everyone understands that making the Lord of the Rings was an arduous task, yes rewarding, but very tiring. And we've got to remember that Peter doesnt just make fantasy movies. I could imagine he would of been very tired of medi-evil and fantasy at the end of the Rings, and wanted a break from it all. So now, we find him making all these other movies, KK (his childhood dream), Halo, The Dam (or whatever it was that was mentioned) and maybe some others.
And there are other great directors out there (obviously not as perfect as Peter, but close, very close  ).. so if it is made by someone other than Peter, it could still turn out excellent..
But yes, I'm hoping that he'll make the Hobbit, but I very much doubt that he will if it is made soon.
That's my view anyway _________________
