But Tolkien said in lord of the rings that Legolas was there; remember at the council of elrond, when Legolas was relating the story of Gollum's escape? Gloin said, "You were less tender to me," as old memories of his imprisonment returned. So if he remembered Legolas being there and not being nice to him, I think that pretty much shows that Legolas WAS THERE. So he should be in the movie, even if he doesn't do anything, since he didn't do anything significant in the book.
But yet it would be weird for him to not do anything because he was the king's son.
So I guess we'll have to "agree to disagree".

WOW... I never noticed that.
Hmmm, well, when Gloin said "you" he could have bee refering to the Elves of Mirkwood in general. But whatever! I'd like to see Legolas get a small part. Maybe one line? Nothing big though. Afterall, he probably was there. So, if they want some "familiar faces" in TH, isn't better to have Legolas then to have Aragorn?

Miriel, Ooh I love both of your ideas. I especialy like the former one about Legolas being the one to bring them their food. A cameo would indeed be great.
Do you know what page that quote from Gloin was on? (I do not remember it and I would like to refresh my memory on it.) You are probabley one hundred percent correct though and it was there and in reference to Legolas.
Just because Legolas had not been created by that time does not mean that he was not suposed to be there (later on...once Tolkein had created him for Lord of the Rings). There was nothing (least wise not that I remember) that stated whether Legolas was there or not and since he was the king's son I have always assumed that he was there. It just seemed logicaly to me. So I am with you, in hoping that Legolas makes an apperance (even if it is a mere cameo) in a possable future Hobbit movie, Miriel.

Gloin may have been referring to the wood elves in general. But why would he have said "you" if Legolas was not there? He would have said "they".
Of course, it could be one of those kinds of terms, like if you're talking about football teams, you would say "you beat us" and not be talking about that specific person. Although I'm not sure if dwarves would use that type of speech.
Still, it doesn't make sense for Legolas to not be there! He's a curious elf, and he has a sense of duty. What would he do when the dwarves were captured? Hide in another room?
I am crazy about seeing more of Legolas, but I would be okay with him just standing behind his father or something.

You said something like that in your second post, though. I agree with that. TheThain wrote: WOW... I never noticed that.

We're both in the same boat then, I guess, TheThain. I had forgotten about that, too . Personally, I would be happy to see ANY Lord of the Rings characters in The Hobbit movie, if they were supposed to be there. It could be Gandalf, and I would still be happy .

None of us really know, ~Miriel~. It's fun to guess about what they would do if they did make a Hobbit movie, though.

Alas, I fear you are right, goldelf. We have not heard even a whisper of what will come.

^Here's the little err... info page... about the Hobbit! IMDb is probably one of the most accurate film info sites there is on the www! Though the information is not 100% certain, I think we can most likely expect to see the Hobbit on screen by the end of 2009... directed by Sam Raimi

It became a rumour because he said himself that he wanted to do it. Since he's a pretty excellent director, I think he would do a fine job with the Hobbit. He also filmed Xena: Warrior Princess, which is also historical... and coincidentally, Ngila Dickson also made the costumes for that series. Maybe she would agree to work for Sam Raimi... if they did work together again for the Hobbit, then we would at least be relieved that the costumes would be made by the same person as the LotR costumes...
I don't know though, that was just entirely hoping... those are not confirmed, so nobody get your hopes up...
