It's funny reading everyone's posts from 2-3 years back, when the Hobbit wasn't even on the horizen. XD
I'm not sure how anyone thought Orlando Bloom would be playing duel characters in any LOTR-related film. I don't think that would happen in a million years.
I would LOVE to see Jason Isaacs as Thranduil. You know, he is capable of playing good people and we already know he looks good with long hair.
As for the Dwarves... I can see them casting relatively known people. As long as Ray Winstone isn't cast I'll be happy.
I don't see why anyone though, would NOT want to see a character from LOTR appear in the Hobbit, even if they didn't in the book. I think if they can just add a few scenes with some of the characters, to help join them altogether, I don't think that can be a bad thing.

I have a sneaking suspicion Doug Jones may get the nod for Thranduil. He's worked with GDT a lot and under the make up he has a very Elvish facial structure imo. He's not a bad actor either, just a bit untested as they always seem to dub over his voice poor guy (except in Hellboy 2) XD
