I know I'm one in stature, at least. ^^

I'm not quite a hobbit in stature. About average. But next to my taller-than-average friends, I feel like a hobbit sometimes...
I'm 5' 1".

No need to hide Aerlinn! We all see the world differently and that is the coolest thing! I'm sure Tolkien picked hobbits out of a thousand other ideas in his head. To be honest, as I have followed the different hobbit characters in the book, I have come to love them. At least as individuals if not as a race.
But more important than what they are or what they look like or whether they are adorable or obnoxious are the ideas and enduring realities that Tolkien illustrates with his hobbits. In many cases they are the perfect creature to get his point across--a point which Tolkien himself said contained certain aspects of of truth that could only be received though hobbits.
Did I say that out loud?!!!! Heh heh! Well, could only be received in the mythical mode which contains his hobbits! Is that better? Heh heh!!!!

Well I'm more a "fan" of elven race. Not that hobbits aren't great but I guess I've always had a taste for the sophisticated.
But to hate hobbits? Nooo way. My favorite Lord of the Rings character happens to be a hobbit: Samwise Gamgee!

Awww hobbitses are so sweet. There's more to them than love of food and comfort, and if you don't like them, you need to learn more about them. They're too complex to just overlook, as are the elves. In fact hobbits have a lot of the same qualities/traits as elves, but in different ways.

I think that Tolkien created Hobbits in the image of humans. Don't you think?

Yeah, I'll agree on that, but I mean what I say. Tolkien created Hobbits in the image of Humans. They aren't clones of Humans of course, but Tolkien used there lifestyle to represent his ideal lifestyle and I don't know, In general I do see them as more like Humans in Middle Earth than the Humans are - at least to an extent if you follow me...? (:

Um...that's kind of confusing--to me, at least.
I think that Tolkien's portrayal of the humans in Middle-earth is perfect, and realistic--though in some cases, I think he makes them appear a little too virtuous.
But I don't think that the hobbits are really 'human-like' at all. I think that the hobbits are embodiments of what Tolkien thinks the perfect lifestyle would be, coupled with some faults to make them believable.

...Which is exactly what I said
I think the downfalls of Hobbits are actually again, ideals Tolkien believes in an ideal world we should possess.
As ignorant as it may seem, the idea of being so flippant and being able to enjoy life without a care in the world is the dream Tolkien conveys through Hobbit attitudes (:

The thing that set me off from hobbits at first was their feet. I was like, Hairy Feet? Um...
But now I love hobbits! They're just so... happy, and happy is good. And frankly, who wouldn't like to be a hobbit?
