Well, I don't speak any form of elvish, so what did Gimli say to Haldir after he said "We have not had dealings with a dwarf since the dark days." in the SEE of the movie. This has been bugging me since I saw it! Thanks!

It's Khuzdûl...
He says:: "Ishkhaqwi ai durugnul."
it means:: "I spit upon your grave"

Haha! I really had no idea what that meant either, but now that it has been said, I see what Aragorn means. It's interesting that I neve thought to find out what it said before.
*huggles JF* We love ya anyway, our little Dwarf!

Hmm... manners Gimli, manners!!
Anyway, how would Aragorn know Khuzdûl?
That guy can't know everything in Middle-earth for crying out loud... it's gotta stop!!! lol

Good question Eä!
It makes me wonder if he learned it whilst in Elrond's house. But then, why would Elrond [being an Elf] want Aragorn to learn Khuzdul, a Dwarvish language. Elves disliked Dwarves, it just doesn't add up.

I didn't think about the possibility of Aragorn learning it whilst on the road. But as you said, I don't think he would have met up with that many Dwarves, and I don't think he would have been in their company long enough to learn much. Plus, wouldn't they just speak the Common speech that everyone knew?

There would be very little chance aragorn knew what that ment. The dwarves do not teach their language to anyone who isn't a dwarf.

Maybe it was elvish, and Gimli only knew enough elvish to insult the elves.
