Ooh I found a quote somewhere ... here you go, it might explain a few things::

Quote:
It’s not Elvish; it’s pseudo-Dwarvish; only one word in it (ai ’upon’ ) is by Tolkien; the rest was made up by David Salo.

Supposedly, according to Salo, it’s Ishkhaqwi ai-durugnul, ’I spit upon your grave’. Yet the negative reactions of Aragorn and Haldir make little sense as the Dwarves were not likely to teach Khuzdϋl (their language) to anyone; indeed they kept it very secret, except when using place-names.

Indeed, it was not courteous...*wants to strangle Gimli*

It´s indeed strange that Aragorn understands Gimli´s words!!
I always kind of disliked the scene (though the Dwarfish-language sounds funny) cause even if PJ wanted to put more weight to the whole elves-dwarfs rivalry I can´t believe that the book-Gimli would have said something like that.

My friend told me that.... Totally wants me to lop Gimli's head off... If it stood but a little higher from the ground. Actually, so I don't have to lift a finger.... Labo vi Orodruin, Gimli!

Well, the dwarves did teach some Khuzdul to Elves in the First Age, but not very often, compared to the amount of Dwarves that learned Elvish. So maybe there was an Elf in Rivendell who was alive from the First Age and taught it to Aragorn. ^_^ Aragorn was 87 in the movie, so it's not like he didn't have time....

Elrond was alive in the first and second ages. He was also a Noldo and therefore he ahd dealings with the dwarves. Also Aragorn may have had soem dealings with th edwarves on the great east road. Most often when u learn a new language from a native speaker the first words you learn are the Insults!!!!!

Yeah... Gimli is such a nice character, though a bit proud (like all dwarves should be :P). I don't think that he would ever speak with such disrespect in the book. "I spit upon your grave"... it doesn't sound like a Fellowship-worthy thing to say! :frustrated:

A Python quote!!!! You made my day :P .

I always wondered what Gimli said...hmm. Oh well the characters in the movie can't be exactly like the characters in the book...I guess....It's been such a long time since I've read Fellowship I don't remember what Gimli was like in the book.
