Well, that's interesting I must say. Obviously I did not draw that conclusion. I was thinking of Shelob or the Watchers or at least rumors of the existance of some unknown "evil" which would have referred to them. In my mind, the men of Gondor were WELL aware of the other dangers associated with Mordor, having lived in it's shadow and defended it for so long (meaning orcs, etc). So I felt that it must refer to some danger of which they had heard rumor of that was not exactly defined, yet they knew existed. Obviously, they knew the Great Eye existed, knew of it's evil, knew the danger it present and he even mentioned it in the sentence. That it why I felt that it hinted at something more. Perhaps I was wrong. I still think not. I still think he is referring to either the rumors that the men of old had heard of Shelob or the "danger" on the mountains which ultimately was the Watchers.
