One of my favorite places in the FotR movie is the meeting of Gandolf and Frodo right at the beginning. The words and expressions exchanged say sooo much. The script and acting here is so beautifully done. And when Frodo throws himself into Gandolf’s arms, it is too much! It gets me every time!

Are there places like this in the movies where Frodo’s endearing emotions touch you in a special way?

All through out the movie's Frodo sends out little bits of love to people throughout his journey. Even if it's just by smiling or putting his arms around someone.

Two scenes I really remember clearly where this happens is at the end of TTT, when Frodo gives Sam a smile and says "Frodo wouldn't have gotten far without Sam", it just warms my heart to see Frodo acting like his normal, kind self again.

The other scene is after Frodo has destroyed the Ring and the two hobbits are sitting on a rock in the midst of the lava flow. Even though Frodo has had no hope of seeing the Shire again all through the movies he is fine and Sam is the one who is distraught. It brings me to tears when wordlessly, Frodo reaches out and puts his arm around Sam as he cries.

*feels happy inside*

There are a lot of happy scene's with Frodo that make me all warm and fuzzy inside, but there is one scene that almost always makes me really emotional, but it's not really a happy scene.

It's the scene when the Fellowship is coming out of the Mines of Moria and Frodo turns to the audience and has this expression on his face that has some much feeling in it. It's desparation, sadness, hurt and betrayl. I remember listening to the special features and Elijah said that Peter had come to him and asked him to give him a look that could scare the audience. and he did it beautifully. it gets me everytime.

I love that scene, it's one of the most beautiful ones in the movies. Elijah was so good at capturing so many emotions into one look.

That's why I find him such an excellent actor! He did everything to the best of any ability and he made it seem like it came naturally. though it probably does for him!

I really appreciate those poignant examples of Frodo. I am going to have to watch the movies again and open up my soul again. Something tells me if we really got serious in describing the different places where Frodo jumps off the sceen to touch our hearts, this thread could be pretty long.

He was very well cast.

Post subject:  An internal infectious attraction...

One of the things that makes Frodo so infectious is not external. A lot of the characters in LotR make their heroic mark through genius, strength, valor and/or skill. One thing that really stands out in this epic story is that the ultimate hero doesn't have any of thes impressive hallmarks. He breaks the conventional heroic mould. As Dr. Roy Clements says,

"He’s not a warrior, he’s not a wizard; he has no special rank, no special knowledge, no conspicuously heroic credentials at all. He’s not even, like Harry Potter, secretly empowered. The one supernatural advantage he has, that famous ring, is not really his and he must never use it or all will be lost. No, Frodo is just a hobbit. The most inconsequential and insignificant of all the creatures that inhabit Tolkien’s Middle-Earth. But, by a cruel and extraordinary stroke of fate, it is he, and he alone, who can save the world."

What a wonderful thouhgt!...that the most simple and ordinary of us, embracing virtues of courage, integrity and self-sacrifice can have a role in life so important and consequential.

What a powerfully infectious role Frodo has!

I agree with you guys
Elijah has done such a great job in LotR :)
I really like the scene in FotR when he holds the Ring in his hand and is about to take the boat to the eastern shore alone, with tears on his face. And he remembers when he said "I wish the Ring had never come to me, I wish none of this had happened"
and he suddenly remembers the friendly face of Gandalf
"so do all in such times, Frodo. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us"

That really touched my heart and also when he hugs Sam still crying in the boat. *sighs*

Those are such deep, heart retching scenes that hold so much personal meaning for a lot of us. And these threads run so true throughout the story. One reminds us of another until our heart is stirred.

That scene is one of the best. It build the relationship of Frodo and Gandalf really well in a small amount of time. It kinda helps you understand how much they really do care for each other.

Frodo is one of my favorite characters, so he touches my heart throughout the film.
What I find really touching is the contrast between the scenes in the beginning of the films, where Frodo is a happy, dancing (LOL. the Frodo funky chicken!), carefree hobbit, and the Frodo at the end of the films who is worn down by his troubles and care.
Of course, the scene with gandalf at the beginning made me smile. :) He looks so cute and little next to the giant Gandalf.
I find the scenes with Sam touch me most though. The friendship between these two is a rare and beautiful one and it's always touching to see it in action.

EDIT: I also think that Elijah Wood did an absolutely amazing job playing Frodo, and that there's no one who could have played him better. He's not just another one of Hollywood's pretty faces. He's an incredible actor.
