Is the layout for the main site done then? Last I checked, we were still missing the title text and navigation bar. I'm going to bow out of any discussion of whether we should overhaul the coding before the new layout or vice versa, but if you choose to update the layout now, it should be just a matter of changing the php include file and tweaking the stylesheet. Maybe a couple other graphics here and there to match, but actually far less complicated than what was involved for Eru to get the new forum skin up.

I can definitely do the coding to at least get the new layout up and running, but I would need someone else to upload the files because I don't have access to anything.
And if it is a trust issue, I completely understand.

Well you have to understand Ana, that there are levels of skill within the coders. I myself am a fixer, I would say. I'm not involved in changing codes around, but I will be involved, like Nurr in fixing links and adding things to pages.
So technically.... this is something that me and Nurr could be doing now while Tel and Elb are figuring out the coding.
Obviously though, there are things that we do need to get absolutely straight such as: what links are we having in the header? what pages are we removing completely? what new pages are being created?
I know these things have been discussed but from myself and Nurr's point of view, we wouldn't want to be fixing things to certain pages to find out no one wants them.
I don't believe a layout has been created Arwen, but as we all said it would be pretty much the same as ever (not including things we change on each page) I think it should be very easy for someone to add the correct colour codes and the header.

A) Is the header done? Last I knew, it wasn't finished. B) This is pretty collaborative, so things are spread out. It's hard for just one person to do it when five different people each have a different part. C) We were familiarizing ourselves with the server and such, and we are people with other lives. I apologize if those come across a bit short, I'm doing this in between working on a final exam outline. Also, Ana, I'm sure you didn't mean to sound snippy, but it came across (at least to me) that way.

I don't think Ana came off snippy at all. I think we're all waiting to see the fruits of your labor, rather than just hear you talking about it. And no, that's not a demand to get you moving faster, we're just anxious to see all the things that you have done, up and running so to speak.
I know the amount of time and hard work it takes to do coding - I just made a whole new skin for this forum by myself (which according to Arweb was much more complicated than changing the site layout). But I also know that the more people who are involved, the more time it's going to take. If one person took charge and just did it, we could have a new layout up in no time. If the skinning of the forum would have been a collaborative effort, it wouldn't even have been halfway done by now because we'd still be debating back and forth on what shade of green we should use for the border.
I understand that you want to keep it a team collaboration and that's totally fine. But you have to understand people (who aren't on the team) asking questions about how you guys are doing since we haven't physically seen anything happening yet.

Sort of randomly butting in here, but Eru, the new green forum skin looks amazing! It'll take some getting use to, but you did a fine job on it!

Aww cheers, Larael! I still have to get used to it myself and I've been staring at it for about a week and a half.

I appreciate your thoughts Eru, but to be fair, if one person decided on the new layout and how things should be positioned (not just colours and images), I feel lots of people would not like the fact they had no say in it at all.
Personally, I would love one person to just create the new layout, and design whatever things they feel should be added (be it where should the chat box go, do we need the guestbooks so prominently etc) as this would be far quicker. But ultimately, we have people here who care and who want to have an input and feel like they are part of something, so no matter how long it does take, I think that is almost more important than speed.
But I digress. In short, I understand that people not in the know as it were, have questions and I don't think any of us have a problem with that but I guess, judging by the updates posted by those involved concerning other sections of AU, if we have nothing to report, there is probably no point in saying anything.
But, in all honesty, I myself have not had the time recently to have much of an impact of anything to do with coding. But I can promise that I will do my very best this week to try and get the coding team together so we can get something up on the site.

Sorry, no offense intended towards anyone. I understand wanting to know what's going on. And it is definitely good to make sure that we keep working on things. I just know that for one, I have been super busy the past couple of weeks and haven't really had the time to do much of anything related to coding. After the 21st I will be free as a bird and able to do whatever til all hours of the night.

I am dropping in quick to say a few words in regards to coding. I will be tied up for 1 more week (until May 12) with finals and getting the year wrapped up. After that, I am absolutely free and will begin the process of A-U overhaul with the rest of the coding team. Until that, I apologize for my tardiness and lack of communication.
Until May 12, Namárië

I really didn't mean to sound snippy, and I came across that way, I apologize.
I just get the feeling that ever since this revival started, there's been a lot of talking about how we're going to do things, and not so much doing. I hope you know that I really do appreciate the work you're doing and I know what busy feels like. What I was trying to say was that, if there are simple things that can be done that don't need for everything else to be ready, then we should try and do them. But I don't have much knowledge about these things, so I guess that in expressing this I come across as impatient.

I don't think I can add much to the conversation apart from just my point of view. I have no clue what coding is. To me when you say you are working on coding you might as well say you were taking a space shuttle to Mars to go fishing. As in I vaguely know how to do fishing and I've heard of Mars.. but that's it! I do a little updating in CMS at work and still I can only do what I have learned.. I have no idea what I'm doing there. Maybe other non-coding people might feel a bit that way. Like when Eru skinned the forum it was just magically there one day. I have no idea how many hours she spent on it.. I only see the glorious result. Like many other behind-the-scenes jobs it may be a little rewardless. I think for me to understand how much work is actually going on back there I would appreciate the occasional heads up as in... "alright Telp and Elb will be working on umm... site links over the next week.. site links link the different sub-sites to the main page etc etc." Not that I need a long explanation but only so I can at least nod and smile and think that I'm a part of the process.. even from a distance. Then I can wave and cheer and say 'good job guys, hang in there' and give y'all an encouraging pat on the back! For my part I'll try to be patient too, though I can barely control my excitement especially not now that we've got a poll and news on the main site and a shiny new forum skin. And also you guys are more than welcome to ask for help, if there's something others could do to assist you.. a couple of people seems to be available eg. Nicole. But I was thinking maybe we need an easier overview in general over how many people are involved and where we are at things. Not to hit people in the head with it but to help everyone have an idea of all the different tasks here. That way it would be easier to follow the process and to see if someone needs an extra hand, and we can all cheer for and celebrate small victories together. I know the Headquarters threads started out like that stating who took which jobs. But perhaps it would be helpful to re-post. Like break the coding down to something like I suggested on the previous page, same with the images and the main page. Job: Find broken links on Humour and Gallery Who: Nurr and JF Status: Done and the code is ready for the coders to put up Job: General coding overview Who: Elb and Telp Status: Telp is busy til May 7th and after that he will look at [insert difficult coding terms]

^I'm planning to kinda do that with your overview thread idea. Like, make a list of all the different things that need to be done (not every little detail, of course) and then people can post there to tell me who's doing what, and I can update the first thread so that everyone knows who'd doing what. That way it's also easy to see what is done and what still needs doing.

^Yeah, hopefully it will be a glorious thread of flowers, and punch and fireworks and organising - all the best things in life! (and yes, all of us OCD'ers know that organising is da bomb ) By the way, when will the green skin be set to the default? Whenever I log onto the forum it's still blue until I log in.

Don't forget the chocolate chip cookies I think Arwen said she'd like us to wait until people had a chance to give their opinion on the new skin before setting it to default, in case there are more things people would like to see changed.
