Whoever winds up making the main header should try to maintain Arweb's style I think - with the very glowy/shiny theme, glowy cursive font and manipulated picture of Arwen. I'm aware that change is great, but changing the layout style entirely might deter people from the site instead of encouraging visitors to visit, since this style is what everyone knows A-U.com by... it's sort of our trademark look.

I voted for green. Mind you, I haven't known of this website's exsitance for years upon years like some of you have, but I still respect it's orginal look. But green is a Middle-Earth-ie type color, and I think it would work rather well.

You're in luck Luthien, green is what we're going for! I'm working on the new forum skin right now. :)

And the forum skin is looking great so far, guys. Yes, I'm totally creeping on what Eru is coming up with :kick: It's going to be awesome!

Aww thanks Arweb! :) I only have a few more things to tweak guys and then I'm ready to unleash it upon the world!

I'm browsing A-U using the new green skin right now. It takes sometime to get used to the green-ness, but I remember feeling the same whenever you would change skins regularly in the past.

So excited! I know I'll hate it for the first 5 mins because my brain will have to *gasp* adjust to something new but after the initial shock I'm sure the feeling will be replaced with true bliss. :P

So does that mean you guys sorted the font challenge on the header? And can we start the countdown for the new layout? :)

The text size/placement/font/effects for the header is still a bit up in the air I think. I won't have time to commit to the text anymore, so JF (or whoever's willing to step up to the plate) will have to continue working on that.

Mind you, I'm only doing the forum skin. I'm not involved with the site layout and colors.

I've made a forum header using JF's new site header but I've not added any text to it because I thought it'd be nice to make the site and the forum match in terms of font and effects.

We can definitely start the countdown for the new forum skin at least! I'm tweaking some last minor coding details and then I'll go through the whole forum checking every little thing to make sure it all looks right. And then I'll tell Arweb to activate it so you guys can view it and review it.

:)

Will anyone be writing another news update on the front page announcing when the new forum skin is up? It might draw attention to the fact that there is a forum, and make more people join :)

Can't wait to see what you've come up with, Eru :D

It's very um... green... :teehee:

A news update sounds like a great idea. It'll show that something is actually physically happening around here. ;)

If you still need assistance with font and stuff perhaps a friendly PM-poke to a couple of graphics-makers would help to get them out of their hiding. There are still graphic-y people here but they seem to be scattered around. :)

Well, I added the text to the forum header myself. So even if I added effects and stuff, it doesn't mean that it has to be the definite version. If people don't like it once they see it, somebody else could have a go at it.

The skin is finished and has been for about a week now. I'm just waiting for Arweb to help me activate it.

Sorry, I know you're waiting on me for that! I'll try to work on it in the next couple days :)

Yo! Everyone! Update! Eru's skin is now active! So haul yerselves over to your UCP (user control panel), meander over to Board Preferences, select A-U Green under My board style, and let's get some feedback going!

P.S. Eru, I LOVE the New Topic / Post Reply buttons I'm seeing. They're so shiny and elegant!

Whoa, it's ... very green!!! But I feel like I'm in a forest.. literally! My Arwen-banner definitely doesn't match this colour!! Your banner looks really awkward on this background too, Arweb, did you make it for a blue layout? :P

Anyway.. Like I said I know I'll hate the new colour for the first five minutes no matter what it would look like.. yeah, that's my timeframe for adjusting. So this is my immediate response.. but I couldn't wait to comment. :)

Header: Can it be bigger? It looks so small compared to the old one and I think it's a pity you can't see more of it.

Colour: If it is possible I'd prefer a clearer green.. like... I dunno.. Heineken green?? Or like spring-ish green...? But the more I look at it the more I get used to it so I might change my opinion in a minute but I was thinking something like a colour less 'dusty green' would be easier on the eye..?

Button-bling: Shiny and pretty. WIN!!

Thank you, Eru, for having given me this experience. My senses rejoice! :teehee: (<-- which in reality means, good job!)
