lol guys okay I'll be different but I really didn't like that song. I dunno it just kinda stuck out and the way it ended and stuff... >_> just a bit wierd. Personally, I'm happy they didn't put it on TTT soundtrack since I listen to the soundtracks like every day and yeeaah. I don't really like it. =/

^I think I'll agree with that. The words sound really pretty and all, but I don't think her voice really suited it.
And this doesn't really have anything to do with anything, but the costume she's wearing during the funeral is the only Eowyn costume I didn't really like.
However, it's still a beautiful scene. It's actually the scene after the funeral that gets me, where Theoden and Gandalf talk in the Simbelmyne.

I like her voice singing it. It sounded powerful, and foreign sort of, like it was really a country and that was their singing style. You know how every culture has their own special music...anyway, I didn't mind the way it ended! The only problem with it in the movie is it cuts quickly to an empty field scene and the people are gone in a flash, and the tomb door bangs shut and scares you. That always gets on my nerves. But it's not Miranda's fault, or the song's...it was just bad planning.

I give credit where credit is due for these PJ fanfic movies, and for me, I was really glad that this was put into the EE. I get why it wasn't in the theatrical cut. Anyway, I think that Miranda did a respectable job in the part of Eowyn, and in singing this Anglo Saxon/Rohirric death song. Her voice was a bit stiff and chunky while singing it, but still, a respectable job. As for Eowyn's funeral attire... I liked it. Would like to see the whole thing.
Now, since it has been ten years .... here is the scene for all to enjoy...

i was thinking it looked a lot like old english/anglo saxon (either term applies) although tbf, rohirric was based on old english/anglo saxon so it probably wouldn't have sounded much different if it had been in rohirric.
Do we know this though? I mean, Tolkien himself only published a few words of the actual language of the Rohirrim. For examples, Appendix F includes:
trahan "burrow" -- Hobbit-word trân Old English smygel "smial"
kastu -- Hobbit-word kast Old English māðum "mathom"
kûd-dûkan "hole-dweller" -- Hobbit-word kuduk Old English [as invented by Tolkien out of O. E. elements] holbytla "Hobbit"
Granted a few more were published posthumously, but still there's not much to go on. The book describes the sound of the language in general: "That, I guess, is the language of the Rohirrim," the Elf commented, "for it is like to this land itself; rich and rolling in part, and else hard and stern as the mountains. But I cannot guess what it means, save that it is laden with the sadness of Mortal Men."
And I guess it would be interesting if JRRT ever said anything similar about Old English in general. Did he? In any case, what we can say is that Tolkien tried to represent, for English readers, the archaic flavor of the language of the Rohirrim in relationship to the Common Speech, itself represented by Modern English. So the actual language of the Rohirrim -- however it sounded specifically -- was archaic sounding compared to the actual Common Speech (again, itself not English, but represented by English).
Anyway, I like this song. And for myself I would rather it didn't sound (what some might generalize as) perfect, as far as singing voices go, as, even if the real Eowyn had a great singing voice, she would arguably have been upset here, when singing it.

I do agree. The roughness of it added to the grief being portrayed I think. And we can only imagine what the 'real' Eowyn sounded like singing this. I have a an ingrained aural image in my head of this scene that was formed long before this century.

I agree, the roughness of her voice kind of gives the expression of her almost crying while she sings. It's a true lamentation and it just hits me every time I hear it.

It does indeed. In listening to it these many years later, it does seem 'forced' at moments, but is still quite intense.
