I agree with Kit. I always interpreted the line more metaphorically or poetically. If a red sun should be rising every time there had been blood spilling, the sun would be permantly red in Middle-earth. Besides... the sun actually is red when it rises.. First of all I see it as a narrative effect emphasizing the intensification of the conflict, but also something to help elaborating on Legolas' character and his Elven senses.
But actually I'm becoming slightly annoyed with Legolas' comments through out the movie, he's got a couple of lines where he is not really saying anything.. just speaking words!
*prepares to get lynched by Legolas fangirls*
When Theoden says 'for a red dawn', I believe he speaks metaphorically. They are riding out to war and it will inevitably cause lots of blood spilling.

I agree, too. Then it is decided

I'm with you, Ea. Legolas's lines were.... unneeded.

I don't know about that... I'm not a Legolas fangirl or anything, but I wouldn't have understood Theoden's line if it weren't for Legolas' line.

Also, Red symobolises Anger and hate, another wrath thing and that he thinks that their wrath will destroy their enemies. Also th esame thing with the blood thing. well done to whever got that

Yes. "They run as if the very whips of their master were behind them" [or something along those lines] is also kind of unnecessary, yeah?

no. it says that the uruk's are running so fast and so long that they must be pushed heavily by something. say Saruman. i personaly like that line. it's cool.

Yes, I know what it means...I just think it's already been established that the Uruk-hai can run very fast for a very long time. To each's own, I suppose.

yes. hehe.
well i really like most of theoden's lines, especially the one before they ride to minas tirith. i think it's like this:
"So, it is before the walls of Minas Tirith, the doom of our time will be decided."
and:
"VICTORY!! WE HAVE VICTORY!"
very powerful lines...yesssss......(precious)

I agree that some of Legolas's lines were useless. But, then again, if we took out all of his useless lines, he would seem like a quiet and shy type.

Perhaps the way that the sun was actually was a Red Dawn, although the sun itself wasn't red, as the sun is never red anyway
