Whoa, they all look really demented in that picture.

I'm pretty sure that one of the Shadowfax horses had a black nose... Demero, I think.

Actually, that pic is incredibly unnerving... Eomer looks really weird. Sorry for the offtopicness. Shadowfax...Yes, I thought one of the horses that played him had a black nose too :-D

seems most of us agree on `horse make-up´
..we´ve had the same discussions in my home and about that particular scene
..Shadowfax´s dark muzzle and the weirdness of the characters/faces..a bit spooky

The horse's name is Blanco... I've met him. =D He was at this horse expo I went to. =P He did tricks and stuff for the show and then you could meet him in the Barn Fair. It was awesome. So at least I can say I've met one of the LOTR cast members. =)

Actually both Shadowfax horses did tricks... its just Demero (sp?) did them better but he didn't look as pretty. So he was the backup. =) If you think about it, any horse playing Shadowfax has got to basically be a trick horse since he has to respond to aids and stuff without a bridle.

My friend went to a horse expo where one of the horses that played Shadowfax was there. I heard that one of them died, is that just a rumor?

Maybe it is some make-up that is supposed to look like dirt to give the audience a better picture of the harshness of how fast Gandalf needed to travel to arrive at Helm's Deep.

I've got to go watch that! I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE bloopers. I find them all the time. Like when Eowyn is leading them to Helm's Deep, and the woman says, "My lady, we are saved," or something like that, Eowyn's hair is all down and flowing. When she starts to walk inside the front strands are all pinned back. Sorry, I know I'm off topic...

Yes, it is the great and absolutely wonderful Blanco. As you can probably guess, I've met him as well. To have a "horsey hello" from the big, white guy is just....well....just marvelous!!! His owner and I became quite friendly and have remained in contact via email. I was able to take several pictures of him the day I met him. He isn't my first LOTR actor to meet, but he certainly is a very special one! When he first appeared on the screen, I think I stopped breathing for several seconds! He is so beautiful and even more so "in person". Ah, yes, me loves Shadowfax (Blanco)!!!!!!

Hmm, I've never noticed that either, and I only watched them the other week.

I'm thinking as the people who looked after the horses, would have known them so well, they would have noticed that Shadowfax is meant to be all white. So if their second horse had black on his face, they would automatically go over it.

As for Eomer, we're seeing him at an angle, his face is grimy, and he is minus a helmet. Previously the only time we have seen him without a helmet is when he's attacking Grima, and his hair is all over the place, and when he takes his helmet off to comfront Aragorn. Again, messy hair. In that picture, it looks quite kempt.
