Ha, did anyone notice... after Haldir dies in Aragorn's arms, Aragorn drops Haldir's allegedly dead body to the ground when the Uruks were approaching. The apparently dead Elf lowered his own head to the ground when he was dropped by Aragorn...

I think I've probably noticed that but maybe it hadn't quite sunk in before you said something. That's funny!

I haven't seen this scene in a while, but I figured it was just because the whole scene was slow-mo.

Anië: Isn't it? I had a good chuckle over that Poor Craig!
Smeag: The slow-mo stopped when Aragorn rushed up behind Haldir... have a look when you have the time to... it's quite amusing

What? I'm confused. If he was dead wouldn't his head drop to the ground, anyway?

Yeah, but an allegedly dead body cannot possibly lower his own head to the ground. Dead bodies are limp. Haldir's head should have fallen limply with the rest of his body.... but it didn't. He carefully lowered his head to the ground when he was dropped.

LOL you really should! Most people don't realise it unless someone points it out... I thought that was highly entertaining.

Nice way to put it, Telcontar *grimace*
And you know... someone brought this up to me a while ago, and I thought it was really interesting: Elves never close their eyes, unless they are dead or mortally wounded, correct? When Haldir "died" in Aragorn's arms, his eyes were WIDE open... looked like he was sleeping. He couldn't have been dead!
But then it was just Jackson's mistake... it was confirmed by Craig that yes, Haldir did die.

Where do you get that elves never close their eyes? How would they blink? And they do blink, too, just pay close attention and you'll see it. Anyway, Legolas closed his eyes when Gandalf started reciting the black speech in fotr, remember?
And besides, people actually do die with their eyes open.

No... Tolkien's Elves don't blink. They just don't. In the FotR, I believe it was one of the Hobbits that were a bit freaked out at Legolas because he slept with his eyes open.... I'm telling you, they don't blink. And remember that the film is not completely accurate. A slight blink is just an accident. Legolas closing his eyes is Orlando Bloom's doing. It was not written in the book that "Legolas closed his eyes when Gandalf uttered the words." The only time in the entire film when an Elf accidentally blinked was during the coronation scene, when Legolas blinked. And when he closed his eyes during the Council of Elrond. Those were small errors though.... that nobody really notices. Haldir's eyes being open was a HUGE error.
People can die with their eyes open, but Elves don't.

It wasn't just an occasional blink; they blink all the time. But OF COURSE we shouldn't rely on the movies for the answers, I agree with that. I just thought, after reading the discussion "do elves blink?" that the movies were where they got that idea.
You're right about the scene in which Legolas sleeps with his eyes open. It is in TTT when Gimli insists on resting before they go after the uruk-hai.
But you're saying that elves NEVER EVER blink, and never close their eyes...but they automatically close their eyes when they die?! If you can tell me where that is in the books, I'll gladly admit you're right. But I sure have not seen it.

Hmm...I have noticed that myself. There are some things about Haldir's death that make me suspicious. I guess maybe that his head didn't fall limp cause maybe he wasn't fully dead yet. I mean if you think about it, the Uruk-hai axe hit his head right? well you think one would die instantly but Haldir in this case, it appeared to be a slow death. *cries* But back to the axe in the head, you see the back of his head for only a mere moment when Aragorn runs to his side and you clearly see no evidence that he'd been hit at all. o_O
And Haldir, about his eyes being open, I am sure Elves die with their eyes open just as they do when they sleep, cause you can see that the other dead Elves around had their eyes open as well.
And again, for the whole limp head thing, maybe Craig did that on purpose. I mean if he did let his head drop, he could've ended up smacking the back of his head on the ground. Ow. And we don't want that.

Thanks! I'll have to watch it again so I can see it.
