I was just wondering... never watched it witht eh subtitles on so I am not sure if this is right so I thought I would ask here and surely someone would know. :P

(I'm pretty sure this is the right movie for this)

"Cold be hand and heart and bone,
Cold be travelers farm from home."

"No one knows what lies ahead,
When sun has faile and moon is dead."

If there is anything wrong with those lines please let me know. :) Thanks.

Wasn't it, "When sun has failed and moon is dead"? I don't think it was faded...

But I love this poem either way. <3

It's:
"Cold be hand and heart and bone
And cold be travelers far from home
They do not see what lies ahead
When sun has failed and moon is dead."

It's half of a song that was written by Fran Walsh and translated in Sindarin.
The full song in English is:

"Cold be hand and heart and bone
And cold be travellers far from home
They do not see what lies ahead
When sun has failed and moon is dead.
In the black wind the stars shall die,
On this bare earth here let them lie,
Till the dark lord lifts his hand
Over dead seas and withered land."

And the translation into Sindarin of the full song is:

"No ring cam a hûn ah asg
A no ring randir chaer o mbar
Ú-genir i lû i caeda na nîf
Ta i pellen anor a firnen ithil.
Vi gwae’ vorn elin firithar
Bo cae lanc hen sí caedathar
Tenn i vorchir gam în ortha
Or aerath firnin a dôr tharn."

You can also hear part of it sung in Sindarin on the TTT soundtrack. Taming of Sméagol - track 2. Around 30 seconds in... :D

It's based upon a song from Book 1, Chapter 8, Fog on the Barrow-downs.

Cold be hand and heart and bone,
and cold be sleep under stone:
never more to wake on stony bed,
never, till the Sun fails and the Moon is dead.
In the black wind the stars shall die,
and still on gold here let them lie,
till the dark lord lifts his hand
over dead sea and withered land.

I spend waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time researching the lyrics and poems in the films...

Ooh, I like that song. :D

IMDB suck sometimes at their quotes and trivia, because anyone can add them and people make mistakes.

Mm, I've learned the hard way never to trust IMDB. What exactly is the significance of the poem being said there? What does Gollum mean? It's a scary poem, I love it anyways!

^ I think it was more PJ didn't want to loose Tolkien's magnificant verse because he removed Tom Bombadil and ergo couldn't put in Fog on the Barrowdowns he needed to stick it somewhere. Same with the Old Man Willow verse. What's Treebeard doing with it?

Random blurb: I'm expecting Tombombadil to show up in a hat John Shooter style with a Mississippi accent going, "You stole my poem. Right is right and fair is fair and something has to be done" (Rat_and_Raven, GO TO SLEEP)
