I didn't like the scene when Arwen listens to Elrond and decides to abandon Aragorn for Valinor. If that were me, I'd put up a good fight! But then, Aragorn wanted Arwen to go because he felt that she should be with her people more then she needed to be with him. What are your thoughts on this?

Dramatic effect, of course. The conflict of Arwen choosing the blessing and life of her people and the love of Aragorn. She was already emotionally unstable when Elrond talked to her, and I would've listened to Elrond too. It was rational. Why live forever to spend 100 years Aragorn and then ultimately be alone? No one really likes the feeling of being alone, she'd be one of the last elves left in Middle-Earth, how can she relate to others?

I am in agreement with Kit.

I am sure there was relentless urging on Elrond's part and Arwen became quite fond of the idea of life without despair. The quest may have seemed quite hopeless, even to those many miles from the ring's journey, and perhaps Arwen started to believe that Aragorn would never return, after all.

The Two Towers scene where Arwen is departing Middle Earth is one of my favourite scenes of all. The music [that replaced the original idea of using Liv Tyler's song] was brilliant. Nicely done, PJ! :bye2:

Departing M-E....[thinks] In TT? Or RotK? I think I heard that they were going to have Liv sing whilst her journey to the Grey Havens and during her vision of Eldarion?

A question for those that read the Appendixes : is any of that, Arwen being persuaded to leave by Elrond, in one of them, or did they just totaly make it up for the movies?

The movies added a good bit that was not in the books. I don't remember Arwen being convinced to leave but I have not read in the appendixes in a while now.

I think her decision in the movie, however, was believable. Aragorn had told her to go as well and she did not even know if he would survive the war of the ring. I am just glad that she made the right choice in the end. ;)

I thought that part was really sad. But i gues in the end she made the best choice for herself..just imagine if she did really leave him and set sail for the west...

Indeed. Imagine. Aragorn would have eventually had to wed someone else to keep his kingdom going, or choose some sort of a heir. Strange.

Come to think of it, it would have been kind of weird if Aragorn married a woman(a woman of the race of Men I mean) because she would have grown old and died in some 50 years or so, and his life was much longer than that.

I really liked the scene Arwens fate in TTT. That sad and desperate picture of her life after Aragorn's death was so moving it almost made me cry. And her leaving was very convincing. I remember when we watched the movie, my friends were saying : "Of course she's leaving, he's going to marry Eowyn. Right?" And I was like : "Wait and see".

Going back a few posts, she never left in the books, it's one of the things PJ did to keep her romance with Aragorn in the audience's mind. It must have been hard for him to try to show their love with the pair of them physically in different places. I must say it was one of the decisions I wasn't happy about. Although I did love the sadness of the vision Elrond painted of Aragorn dying and her being left, and I also loved the vision that made her turn back, the one with Aragorn and Eldarion (her son).

This whole sequence was bittersweet -- what with Aragorn's unselfish love, Arwen's surrender to temporary despair. . . and who couldn't sympathize with Elrond? What a parental dilemma!

Happily true love prevailed after Arwen's inspiring vision of Aragorn with Eldarion. Such touching chemistry between father and son portrayed there -- and the haunting gaze from young Eldarion as the vision faded out! Great bit of acting there. Beautiful cinematography, as well. Truly ethereal.

Yes, I really feel for Arwen there...one of those times when you have NO idea what to do, and different things are coming at you from either side, and your head is all confused. And this decision will completely affect the course of your life. It decides your life.

I know the feeling...except it was just a money issue, not life-changing. *_* So...you just go with what people are telling you is the best way to go, the only way to go. Even if it goes against your heart.
