I believe they're wrong! TTT mainly is about Saruman betraying Sauron!

Two Towers are Barad-dur and Isengard I think but the topic means here the union of the two towers I think as Saruman said in the movie.

just like to point out here that i have seen the two towers - orthanc was inspired by a tower in birmingham (called perrot's folly, i think) and barad-dur was inspired by the radcliffe camera which is part of the bodleian library in oxford.

they look nothing like the film towers (the radcliffe camera isn't a tower at all) but they were still tolkien's inspiration and I'VE SEEN THEM BOTH!!!

i also live in the county tolkien based the shire on (worcestershire); i've spent a night in exeter college, oxford university, which is where tolkien studied; and i'm currently studying english at leeds, where tolkien taught for a little while in the 1920s - just to make you a little bit more jealous ;)

anyway, back to the thread. i have no idea how to put pictures in messages, but here are shortcuts to pictures of the 'real' two towers:

perrot's folly in edgebaston, birmingham (orthanc)
http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgur ... en%26lr%3D

radcliffe camera, bodleain library, oxford (barad-dur)
http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgur ... en%26lr%3D

so now you can all see them. :-D

have to say, the radcliffe camera is an awesome building to stand in front of. tolkien was so lucky getting to study in oxford - i mean, that was his local library!

Tolkien never states in the book exactly which two towers the title refers to. But PJ & Co decided it was Orthanc and Barad-dûr, so yeah those are the two towers in the film!

I agree, one of the towers could even be Cirith Ungol because that's where Sam and Frodo are heading IN THE BOOK.

seeing as this thread's in the "movie discussion" section i think we have to go with what the film makers decided and that's isengard and barad-dur. i agree that that's not necessarily what tolkien had in mind, but then i'm not sure he even came up with the title "the two towers" (i think it was the publishing company) so maybe he didn'tknow either.

i've finally learned how to post pictures, so here are photos of the towers that inspired tolkien (there's some more information about them in my posts further up):
