I like Grima really but he looks like a servant in the movies. I do not think he was a servant in his past life. Since all men weakened by the power of the ring and Saruman. He was dragged to that region and become evil. |

In the books it is said somewhere that he was not always that evil as in his last few years. I don't like Grima, and i probable will never do. I would like to hear his reasons for betraying Theoden. If Grima was a servant... He did serve Saruman! |

I kind of feel sorry for Grima... he was driven by both love (for Eowyn) and fear (of Saruman/Sauron). I really don't think he was evil at heart, just exiled with no where to turn. |

I don't like Grima, but I think that he had not always been evil. I think he served Saruman, because he was afraid of him. |

Yes, I think that, too. But Fear was not the only reason for betraying Theoden, I think that there is something else... maybe his love for Éowyn. |

Definitely Eowyn is a really treasure for him. However, Eomer could not allow him if Grima were not evil from the beginning. |

Of course I don't think Grima started out as a bad person. Everyone can be swayed by power and the temptation of evil, and I think that's exactly what happened. [Lol, listen to me, I sound like some church preacher...] We don't know much about his past life, but I think we can assume that Saruman probably drew Grima in with promises of power and such then kicked him out to work as a kind of slave to himself [Saruman] and a master to Theoden. |

Didn't it say somewhere that Saruman promised him Eowyn if he worked under the laws of Sauron? I think he did... And I did like Grima in... ROTK? I think so... before he died. He was about to go down to Theodon,, but he killed Saruman instead...then....Hmm. I feel sorry for him Anyway.... And I think one of the reasons he served Saruman, was because, even when he was, you know, a good guy... I don't think many people liked him much, and so, he was sort of exiled I guess. Nt sure though, interesting question. But I would say he was more of a servant than coruppted, because he probably knew he'd never get hold of the ring. |

Yep, Saruman swayed Grima into working for him by promising him Eowyn. As I said Grima had to be tempted by something so as to fall under Saruman's power. |

I am writing about a similar problem in another forum, it's about Saruman and his ring. There it is said that maybe this ring of Saruman was much alike the One Ring, maybe it ruled Grima's actions. |

That's a really interesting thought Éowyn, and I think it could definitely be true. I don't think it had the exact power the the One Ring had, but probably the same concept. |

^ yes that's an interesting aspect.. but I also think that Eowyn played a big part for Grima when he was corrupted by Saruman.. |

I think I'd have to agree with you guys. Grima is corrupted, and I do remember something about him not always being evil. |

Yes, I believe, when he got Theoden's advisor, he was not yet evil or corrupted. Maybe he once met Saruman and slipped out that he was the advisor of the king of Rohan, and so Saruman made up his plans about how to currupt him.. |

I think Grima wanted to change his side knowingly because every time he saw Eowyn was like a torchment for him because what he wants seemed like an unreacheable prize |
