he doesn't die??? wow....
and in the movie they made a big deal out of practically nothing. I didn't even know Haldir that well and then they have this huge emotional drama about his death

Well due to some retrospect with the parallel with the drama of Arwen leaving and the sacrifice she makes with her immortality/mortality, I think they wanted to point out, majorly, that Elves too, can die. Their arriving upon Helm's Deep didn't mean "Hurrah, hurrah, our victory is set. Hurrah, hurrah, our victory upon the horizon [literally]." The arrival of the elves didn't mean that they were going to pull through, it meant that the bonds between men and elves are healed through this battle. I don't believe, in the books, they had elves and men fight together. Majorly, in a battle.
Haldir's death was to show that the death of elves by another's blade is not unnatural but is a great loss.

Well, yes, of course. I mean 300 vs. a couple of thousands? They were ALL on a suicide mission. But they made it. Because of Eomer....so Haldir's death was not in vain.

Why is everybody talking about Legolas dying on a forum called "HALDIR"?

Well given the possibility that Legolas could've died in the movies, they were sharing of how they reacted...tearfully, to the event but Haldir is the main victim here so.

I know that Legolas could have died. Gimli could have died. Eomer could have died. Aragorn-wait, no, he has to be king. Anyway, Haldir's the one that actually died.
