I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you mean.

Do you mean, how could he have gone into a hopeless battle like that, knowing he was going to lose?
He did it for Frodo and Sam. He was drawing Sauron's forces out of Mordor so that they could get to mount Doom and destory the Ring unhindered. Personally I thought he was rather brave and noble. He was willing to sacrifice his life for his friends.
I hope this was what you meant. It kind of helps if you're more specific when starting a topic. ;)

I think that's what he means.

Frodo and Sam would have never made it through Mordor had there not been a distraction. Aragorn and Gandalf both knew this, and they knew what must be done. Aragorn also knew that if they all died, they would die knowing that Frodo had made it to Mordor with their help. There really wasn't any other way. It was them or Frodo.

^What she said. :P
And thanks for clearing that up Larael. I thought that was what he meant as well.
Anyways, they didn't all die, and Frodo destroyed the Ring, so in the end, he knew what he was doing going into that battle. Without his help to lure all the Orcs out of Mordor, Frodo and Sam could not have made it to Mount Doom. He was thinkning about the greater good. Even if he died, Frodo could still get to Mount Doom to destroy the Ring. He knew that destorying the Ring was more important than his life.
