Were you satisfied with the way in which PJ did the ending, I thought it was REALLY spectacular, If you listen to the music, The Grey Havens, it moves you even more. I loved the way in which Elijah Wood looked down and when Sam says 'What does he mean' Frodo looks at them all in the same way he did in the Prancing Pony after discovering that Gandalf was not there.

The line 'We set out to save the Shire Sam...but not for me...' Really got to me and i was crying buckets. Everytime i see that scene i do. It's so sad.

It beautiful! I love the music that goes with it. But I think it's a pity it doesn't make any sense to many of those who haven't read the books. I had to explain the ending and Frodo's departure too many times.

I've also heard complaints that the ending was too long, but I disagree.

i know. there were a lot of people who thought the end was to long. i LOVE the end, from the time the eagles pick up frodo and sam at mt. doom to the end of the credits. i think is great. and i know people said that there were too many times when it mad u think it was over but it wasn't. well i think it couldn't have been done any other way because there are so many story lines to finish. you can't just finish it in one shot.

so i really love the end.

You wouldn't happen to want to explain it again, would ye?

I'm not allowed to read the books... so I am rather confused. Of course, I can see how it would get annoying... so you don't have to. :duh:[/s]

Strike that, I got my best friend to explain it to me this morning on the phone.

i hate the ending of the film, by which i mean everything from frodo saying "i'm glad to be here with you, sam, here at the end of all things" onwards. most of it is pure sickening cheese and it misses two of my favourite parts of the book - the scouring of the shire and the whole farmir and eowyn love story (the pathetic little scene in the EE where they hold hands doesn't count). i stormed out of the cinema at the end, i was that furious. i was so ticked off i even started whinging that sam went back to the wrong house at the very end - he was supposed to have moved into bag end by then, but he clearly went back to bagshot row. grrrrr!!!

this is how mad i was: :explode:

Aw that's a shame E.O.I

I take your point about not seeing Sam go home to Bag End though. That was a little bit silly. The only other thing that annoyed me a little about the ending was the fading, I mean surely there was anotehr way to end it. I t just became tedious after a while...at first i was quite excited to see that LOTR had not ended but after a while it was like look if you're going to end...end!

I also believe that the fact that lots was missed out was a little bit sad :( I was disappointed to see that Frodo's stay in the Shire was not prolongedm and he did not stay as long as he did in the books. I mean so much happened when he got back to the shire! It's a pity we didn't see this in the movies, I would have loved to have seen more Elijah!

Overall i believe that the ending was good though. I liked the lines used and i loved the music. It was really moving and it captured the right emotional effect.

I was upset about the fact Frodo had to leave...i was like 'NO DON'T LEAVE! YOU'VE ONLY HAD ONE ADVENTURE!' but in my heart i believe that Frodo's part in the tale has not ended, and i do in fact believe that it is still going on....;)

I hadn't read the books at the time that I saw the end of the movie, but I can't really see how it could have been brought to a close in any other way. There were so many stories to try and resolve that if they had followed all of them in detail they would probably have needed a fourth film just to cover the ending. I suppose that it was inevitable that some of the characters would have been left high and dry (like Faramir and Eowyn), while Frodo's time in the shire after his return had to be compressed to a few minutes.

To be honest, I didn't like the scouring of the shire when I read it in the books, so I didn't mind that it was left out of the endings in the film. I think that the film ended with the right, slightly bitter-sweet tone. I knew that Frodo was going to board the ship, but like you Frodos-guide, inside I was screaming at him to stay put.

Having read the books now, I really couldn't think of a better way of concluding the film within a reasonable timescale - bearing in mind that the film is already incredibly long before you take the missing endings into account.

I thought it was beautiful. I haven't read the books, and I understood perfectly. It moved me to tears. Erm...it was kinda long. The coronation was nice and all....and it was important. It was kind of odd for me though...like, i cried, I stopped crying during that, and then started crying again in grey havens. Also...that scene after mt. doom with frodo in white...and everyone's laughing....that was kind of unneeded I think...and scary *puts on happy frodo face* GAAAANDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALF!

I was so unsatisfied with frodo's departing. I know that's how the book is...but it bothers me. After all that...he just leaves. I guess it's the whole epic thing where 'you can never go home again' and junk...but I was really torn by that! The frodo and sam breaking apart thing was just so sad!

All in all though, it was well-done! :-D
