I don't listen to critics ever so it doesn't make a difference what he has to say. My sisters and I don't like the ending just because it's sad, but it was really well done I think for all that Peter Jackson had to bring to a close.

The wnding is sad... No doubts there. I did not particularly like it... However it IS somewhat of an appropriate ending to an epic story. It is just a sad appropriate ending and not wuite what I had expected.

Yeah I wish it could have been done differently somehow.

Yes, but of allbthe minor suggestions I could make for the movies as a whole I am unsure how you would go about changing the ending. It just fits, though it is so sad.... It still fits. To take it and change it would detract from a piece if the epic- ness of it all. Lol

Yeah and since the book ends kind of like that unless he went all the way to the end but that would be sad as well so overall it's satisfactory.

I don't know what else they could really do... for a while I was upset that they didn't do the Scouring of the Shire, but that would've added on even more endings! And the critics really wouldn't have liked that. :P And melancholy fits better than mirth at that point, what with the whole epic quest and Frodo leaving and all.

Yeah that would have added to the sadness even more, seeing the beloved Shire in that state.

*nods* I do agree.

I did kind of want to see worm tongue get shot by the hobbit archers... But other than that it would just comicate matters... Lol

OK, I'll confess to be a bit of a book-fan Wolverine (think Hugh Jackman) with a bit of a Tasmanian Devil thrown in for good measure. In the RoTK EE appendices, I think it was Elijah Wood who stated that Jack Nicholson (at some premiere, most likely) had told him that he had gone out to the parking lot to turn on his family car's engine so the car would be warm when the rest of the family left the cinema. From what I remember he apparently told Elijah "too many endings!" Now I do like some of the films Jack Nicholson has acted in (though he often does have serious cases of overacting), but for that comment, I just thought "you pathetic little Hollywood dung robot." Hollywood seems to be the place where the least imaginative morons have gathered to make sure movies are only made that they can (barely) comprehend with their walnut-sized (and I'm being optimistic here) brains, as a result insulting the intelligence of 99% plus of the audience - I'm guessing close to two digits on the right. There are some older movies that are quite interesting, but since - I don't know, maybe the eighties - the place has just turned into too much of a cesspit. With all his faults that he showed in his treatment of LoTR, I'm still guessing that PJ, filming in NZ and thus being far enough away from the cesspit, managed to keep quite a bit of possible diarrhea out of the films. I may be wrong. But I have read about parts of the story-line that some 1950s or '60s Hollywood bacteria suggested to JRRT - Mount Doom after the One Ring fell into it was a small burp (or what comes out of the other end) compared to JRRT's comments about it, and he was an English gentleman. Much too nice to such garbage - they only understand a wrecking ball to the face as rejection. :karate:
