Isn't it great that they show a shot of rows and rows of dead elves while Haldir is dying. Well, it isn't great that they're dead, but you feel something is so wrong...Elves are NOT supposed to die. It's the saddest thing in the world to see an elf die, yeah? It show what a big sacrifice it was. It proves with that one shot that TTT is not a pro-war film, no matter how great a battle scene Helm's Deep is.

I think he wanted it to be dramatic, none of the 'important' characters die, save for Boromir and Theoden. Though having it unexpected like that really makes those who have read the book feel the same as those that haven't. He had plans to kill off another of the Fellowship - Merry or Legolas I think, but decided that such a deviation from the book would anger too many LotR fans.

Why do you think Peter Jackson decided to let Haldir be the one to die? I just think its rather curious, besides the fact that it would be good to have the character back in. I mean, I rather hated that part.

cuz he's evil (no just kidding) to make the fans hate him? to make people cry? because he couldn't kill anyone else at helm's deep? ok i meant anyone else important
