There are only two scenes in RotK that I hate - and they both have Shelob in them :hide: . I hate spiders at the best of times, but that was one hideous creature - particularly on the big screen.

At least with the DVD I can skip them both without losing any other scenes!

Really?? Lol I don't hate that scene, I always cry on it... There is no scene in Return of the King which I hate.

yes! that scene quite annoyed me, to be frank. especially Legolas' line "game over." :yeahright: sounds too modern to me...

I hate the scene of Arwen dying for a couple of reasons:

1 - She doesn't really die, she should have
2 - This doesn't happen
3 - I can't stand Arwen

Clear enough, right?

 I love the "she should have" part :-D

Most hated scenes?

1) Mount Doom because:
- Frodo could not have held on to that rock. Very fake.
- The lava looked very fake. I'm sorry but when a scene looks obviously done on the computer I can't stand watching it because I can't get past how fake it looks.

2) Legolas killing the Mûmak single handedly
- *rolls eyes*
- It looks fake

3) Merry being mad a Pippin when he's about to leave with Gandalf because:
- I feel so sorry for Pippin!!

4) Arwen seeing her son because:
- That's not supposed to happen
- It's lame

5) Arwen 'dieing' for reasons previously stated.

6) Denethor chomping on his food (while pippin sings)
- Blah!

7 ) Eomer saying mean things about Merry!
- Argh!

8 ) Elrond coming and giving Aragorn his sword
- It annoys me because he was suppossed to have that sword a while ago...

9) How the dead come to the battle of Pelannor (sp?) fields, sweep through and all the bad guys die
- That doesn't happen...
- It's lame

10) In front of the gates of Mordor they have horses and then all of a sudden they don't.
- It's funny but it kind of ruins the effect.

11) The scene where the fellowship reunites in Minas Tirith
- Frodo's laugh is weird
- It's creepy to see Aragorn laugh; it's the only time he does in all three movies.
- It's really cheesy

12) "You bow to no one"
-It's really cheesy

That's just my opinion! The rest of the movie is excellent :)

Well, maybe you're really happy that Arwen lived, right? I'm so happy she annoys you. Your mean attitude in the last post deserves that feeling when you watch the film. Have a nice day.

Erm...I don't really know how that was a mean attitude. I just didn't like two of her scenes in RotK...you're acting as if every single one of my complaints was about Arwen.

I've read your other posts and they were mean-spirited towards her, much like Elu Thingol (Wanting her to die?), which you even quoted and laughed and agreed with . There's no denying it. But if she makes you enjoy the film less, so much the better.

I don't hate Arwen if that's what you think. And I don't actually wish that she had died. I think that she's a fairly important part of the story and the only reason that the tale of Arwen and Aragorn wasn't in the books was because Tolkien couldn't fit it in. That why it's in the appendices. What I don't like is the way it's shown in the movie and I don't like that other important parts of the story weren't put in so that Arwen could have more screen time. A lot of Arwen's scenes were nowhere in the Appendices and some parts that are there about Aragorn and Arwen weren't even put in the movie.

her "attitude" was only stating her opinion. i don't find anything wrong with that, and even if i may not agree with her...i still respect her ideas and angles of thinking. maybe you should learn to do that, too.

Elberethsq, I know what you mean by the "hall" scene. The most dreaded line- "A diversion", lol. Poor Legolas, having the obvious lines. :-D

Yeah, I know. Legolas's lines are sometimes so . . . something.

Legolas....*chuckles* Wow...his lines were.. as Elberethsq noted, "something". Just that. Something. I don't know whether or not they did this so that they can have him TALK at the small council or to point out to the idiots in the audience what the heck Aragorn was getting at. I had fun jabbing at Legolas fans for this though. *giggles*

Arwen's Dying Scenes [in Arwen's/and PJ's defense]:
-It doesn't really do much comparing Movie Arwen with Book Arwen because if you do then you're looking at a whole list of things that don't/doesn't happen.
-Probably 75% of the reason why they filmed the scene and why it was added was that they wanted to show how much of an influence Arwen has on Aragorn. How true their love is. How much in love they are that Arwen is willing to DIE for this MORTAL and how Aragorn is willing to face his true fear (himself) because of her. It also builds up the tension and the full relief in Aragorn when he sees Arwen alive and breathing and looking very sexy in her green coronation gown. He thought she was DEAD.
-The other 25% of the reason why they filmed it. CINEMATOGRAPHY. Ever heard of that?

I read something about how some of the stuff looked fake/lame/etc about lava and Mumakil ---

Tell me. Would YOU go into an active volcano to film REAL lava? To risk injury of third degree burns or even your life.

"Real" Lava <--Does that look like real lava to you.
I've seen real lava, and I'm perfectly happy with the way they "tried" to depict it.

Legolas and Mumakil --- Well...I've seen Windshield surfing but not Mumakil/Elephant surfing. This is also probably mostly due to Cinematograhy.

Wow. I'm very surprised! That was probably one of my avorite moments in the film. Of course he couldn't hold on to the rock, but it did serve an emotional purpose. I mean after all, hadn't he held onto the rock, he'd be burnt to a crisp. And the fans probably wouldn't like that, would they, precious? (no! wouldn't like that at all! *gollum!* *gollum!*)

8 ) Elrond coming and giving Aragorn his sword
- It annoys me because he was suppossed to have that sword a while ago...

I guess that was kind of inevitable since the filmmakers made that choice in the Fellowship of the Ring.

9) How the dead come to the battle of Pelannor (sp?) fields, sweep through and all the bad guys die
- That doesn't happen...
- It's lame

That. Scene. Amazing. I can see why purists and such would not like it, but I think it is my favorite of the liberties PJ took.

Regarding a lot of the things that happen in the book that weren't in the movie, I like to pretend they happened. You know, I pretend they met Tom Bombadil but it wasn't on screen. I pretend that perhaps mabe The rangers that unite with Aragorn really did meet with him and went to the paths of the dead with him, but...hmm..well, maybe I can pretend that they got lost or....something.

I really don't hate much of the film at all. It is interesting to talk about why som epeople don't like certain things nonetheless.

worst scene ever, which I hate:
THE GREY HAVENS!!!
Okay, okay, I like it...yet I hate it! It makes me cry! I mean, Frodo leaves, Galadriel leaves, Bilbo leaves, Gandalf leaves--FOREVER!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!
Whatever happened to happy endings? Okay, it was a happy ending, technically--but not a completely happy ending!!

i agree with that point of view. The Arwen parts. . .she's cool in FotR b/c she's strong, but she pushed Glorfindel to the side! he was my fav in the book and i was horrified after reading it that he wasn't even in the movie! ( i saw the movies first. . . )

UGH the WORST scene in the entire movie is when Gollum chokes Deagol to death! i saw it, it scarred me for a long time. (i saw it when i was kinna young but not really. . . ) i HATE and cannot stand watching people choke in movies. it's always horrible and gross. i mean poor Deagol! i can't believe no one put this scene! that is the one scene i will NEVER watch again, considering i've seen rotk 500 times. . .
