Does anyone else think it's kind of strange that aragorn bursts into song after he's king?

Well, songs did carry a lot of meaning in the world of Middle-earth. Remember Arda was created through The Music of the Ainur and Lúthien put a spell on the Dark Lord only with the power of her song.
The poem Aragorn sings after his crowning is also part of the ritual to draw the line back to the kings of old.

Wonderfully explained as always Eä! Also, I'm sure he was extremely happy about finally restoring peace to Middle-Earth, so why not sing about it!

Good thoughts. Also, he was quoting Elendil his forefather, saying what the former had said when he came to Middle-earth after the destruction of Numenor. (Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come. Here will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the World. --If I remember correctly ) So the words had some meaning for him, and his situation was similar--coming out of exile to abide and rule in Gondor.

it's a wonderful song that touches my heart (even though... is there anything in the film that doesn't touch my heart?) and the flowers falling from above is also a wonderful scene

Actully Viggo Mortensen was just supposed to say the lines, but he sang them instead.

I didn't know he was orignally supposed to say the lines. I'm glad he sang them, because it was more meaningful. If I recall correctly, he does sing those words in the book. Singing in that culture was more than just entertainment I think. It was more a part of the soul I think...especially for someone as noble and wise as Aragorn. He may have gotten that from his elven heritage.

That is a beautiful thought! Why shouldn't there be so much song in ME since it was created by song. That seems only natural to me. I can't help but feel that all the the creativity and inspiration in our world comes from a similar source.

It is a part of my soul too. I think there is reason why we resonate with it...why it is so meaningful to us. I think song, poetry and art are much more than entertainment for us too.

I don't think it's strange that he sang at his coronation. He must have been so happy to achieve his goal he had to express it somehow and why not do it with singing!

I think another important thing to consider is that he was raised by elves. How could you be raised by elves and not have song imprinted in the closest and deepest part of your soul? It would be to him a most natural way to express himself just as I'm sure he had done at many other moving times in his life, including at Boromir's death with Legalas.

I personatly thought it was awesome that he sang after the grand moment...it showed he was friends of the Elves by singing in Elvish and also showed that he was not afraid of doing things in front of his people...if I had to have an king, I would want it to be Aragorn.
